God Psalm 147

[1] Praise the Lord! For it is good to sing praises to our God; For it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful.

It is always good, pleasant and beautiful to praise the Lord.

Hebrews 13:15 Therefore by Him let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name.

Psalm 147:2-3 The Lord builds up Jerusalem; He gathers together the outcasts of Israel. [3] He heals the brokenhearted And binds up their wounds.

The Lord gathers together people who are wounded and hurting spiritually, into His church and heals them there.

1 Peter 2:24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness-- by whose stripes you were healed.

Psalm 147:4-5 He counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by name. [5] Great is our Lord, and mighty in power; His understanding is infinite.

These two verses refer to two of the three characteristics of God. His infinite knowledge and understanding is shown by his knowledge of the number and names of the stars. Verse 5 refers to his mighty power, another characteristic of God.

Romans 1:20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse,

Psalm 147:6 The Lord lifts up the humble; He casts the wicked down to the ground.

God has always given grace to the humble and resisted the wicked.

James 4:6 But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: "God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”

Psalm 147:7-9 Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; Sing praises on the harp to our God, [8] Who covers the heavens with clouds, Who prepares rain for the earth, Who makes grass to grow on the mountains. [9] He gives to the beast its food, And to the young ravens that cry.

We should always be thankful to God for the beauty and blessings of the earth. He supplies food for all.

Acts 14:17 Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.”

Psalm 147:10 -11 He does not delight in the strength of the horse; He takes no pleasure in the legs of a man. [11] The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear Him, In those who hope in His mercy.

The strength and power of man or beast is not impressive to God. What impresses him is those who have faith, hope and trust in Him.

2 Cor. 12:9 And He said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Psalm 147:12-14 Praise the Lord, O Jerusalem! Praise your God, O Zion! [13] For He has strengthened the bars of your gates; He has blessed your children within you. [14] He makes peace in your borders, And fills you with the finest wheat.

God protects us, blesses us with children and food, and helps us to be at peace with him and others.

Philip. 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Psalm 147:15-18 He sends out His command to the earth; His word runs very swiftly. [16] He gives snow like wool; He scatters the frost like ashes; [17] He casts out His hail like morsels; Who can stand before His cold? [18] He sends out His word and melts them; He causes His wind to blow, and the waters flow.

This section shows that God has control and power over nature

Mark 4:39 Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace, be still!" And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.

Psalm 147:19-20 He declares His word to Jacob, His statutes and His judgments to Israel. [20] He has not dealt thus with any nation; And as for His judgments, they have not known them..

God’s people put themselves under His control but the non-christians do not submit to Him..

Romans 8:5-7 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. [6] For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. [7] Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be.

the Lord! We have great reasons to praise the Lord. Are you praising Him every day?
