3 What is the D of E? An internationally recognised achievement 3 levels to the award: bronze, silver, gold You can start bronze at age 14 Finish gold by age 25

6 The 4 Sections Volunteering Physical Skill Expedition About an hour per week

7 The 4 Sections VolunteeringPhysicalSkillExpedition 3 months Plan, train for and undertake a 2 day, 1 night expedition All participants must undertake a further 3 months in one of the volunteering, physical or skills sections

8 Volunteering Examples of past volunteering sections: Helping younger children at brownies / cubs Charity shop Student librarian Volunteer at park run (Lydiard park) Helping older people (gardening or cleaning) Coaching at a sports club

9 Physical Examples of past physical sections: Running or cycling, either with a club or keeping a log of personal achievements Dance Any sports club Fitness classes Horse riding

10 Skill This cannot be a physical activity – working on your backhand or golf swing can’t count Past skills sections have included: Music exam Any extra GCSE tutoring outside school Dog training Drama (Les Miserables) Flying / gliding

11 Expedition 2 day, 1 night expedition Must undertake a practice expedition and training first You will plan your own route, be completely self-sufficient for 2 days, walking in groups of 4-7 friends

14 Expedition kit Things that we provide: Tent Roll mat Rucksack Stove and fuel Map & compass Some waterproofs (not enough for everyone)

15 Expedition kit Things that you will need: Walking boots (Must support ankles). Clothes to walk in (Artificial fibres to wick out). Sleeping bag (Low profile which has a small pack size).

16 eDofE Your activities will need to be logged online and verified by an adult (not related to you!) You will receive a pack and you can fill in pages like this:

17 eDofE You can then take a picture / scan the page and upload to eDofE Or if the assessor is happy to do it online they could go to the website and type their comments in themselves

19 What next? 1 Hand in an enrolment form by break-time on Monday 14/09/15 2 Make the first payment on parent pay by midnight on Tuesday 15/09/15 3 Sign up for the first Mountain Club walk
