3 To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices. Bee Wise Immunize “Transition” funding to help state immunization programs address their specific needs as they make the needed changes to be more effective in the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Environment.

4 Funding Opportunity Announcement Released on March 30, 2011  Grant application due May 9, 2011  The FOA is organized in 2 Parts and 5 Program Areas that states can select for development and action  Each Program Area is awarded separately and is competitive  Activities piloted with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding will be expanded to more states with this ACA funding Bee Wise Immunize To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices.

5 Part I Enhancing Immunization Information Systems  Program Area 1  Enhance interoperability between electronic health records (EHRs) and immunization information system (IIS) and reception of Health Level 7 (HL7) standard messages into IIS  Kansas is one of 33 states eligible to apply for this funding.  Estimate 20 awards will be given  Average amount of award $900K Bee Wise Immunize To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices.

6 IIS Interoperability  Goal:  Increase the number of private provider EHRs capable of interoperability with KSWebIZ from 2 to 10 and increase the number of provider sites electronically exchanging data with KSWebIZ from 3 to 33 Bee Wise Immunize To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices.

7 Interoperability Activity  Implement a web-based provider database tracking tool to maintain data on all private providers and contract with a vendor to customize and implement this tool  Survey providers who administer vaccines to children  EMR used  Number of patients and number of immunizations given  Purchase supporting software and infrastructure  Develop HL7 2.5.1 messaging  Currently have HL7 2.3.1 operational Bee Wise Immunize To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices.

8 Part I Enhancing Immunization Information Systems  Program Area 2  Develop a vaccine ordering module in an IIS that interfaces with CDC’s VTrckS vaccine ordering and management system  Kansas is one of 6 CDC immunization grantees using the WebIZ IIS who will benefit from a vaccine ordering module.  Estimate 22 awards will be given  Average amount of award $536K Bee Wise Immunize To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices.

9 Vx Ordering Outcomes  Web based ordering for VFC providers  Expedited vaccine shipments  Contingency plans if system becomes unavailable  Trained staff and providers in the use of the ordering module  Improved IIS performance by added database and/or server capacity  Technical and operational support for providers Bee Wise Immunize To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices.

10 Part II Enhancing Grantees’ Infrastructure to Improve Operations  Program Area 3  Develop a strategic plan to enhance the capacity for billing for immunization services in health department clinics  Estimate 16 awards will be given  Average amount of award $500K Bee Wise Immunize To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices.

11 LHD Billing Outcomes  Documentation of stakeholders’ strong and active support  Payers  Insurance Commission  LHDs  State Medicaid  Assessment of existing billing capacity  Documentation of discussions with 3 rd party payers  Description of barriers and strategies  Final plan to increase billing capacity Bee Wise Immunize To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices.

12 Part II Enhancing Grantees’ Infrastructure to Improve Operations  Program Area 5  Plan and implement adult immunization programs  Estimate 13 awards will be given  Average amount of award $1M  LHDs have been given the opportunity to submit proposals for this program area that will be the basis of the Kansas application  7 LHDs have indicated an intent to apply Bee Wise Immunize To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices.

13 Adult Immunization Outcomes  New or enhanced LHD relationships with pharmacies resulting in documented increased vaccination of adults  New or enhanced LHD relationships with employers resulting in documented increased vaccination of their employees  Improved hospital discharge influenza and pneumococcal vaccination rates  New or enhanced LHD relationships with community health centers with expanded adult vaccination efforts  Improved health care worker influenza vaccination rates at facilities including hospitals and nursing homes Bee Wise Immunize To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices.

14 Part II Enhancing Grantees’ Infrastructure to Improve Operations  Program Area 6  Enhance the sustainability of school-located vaccination  Estimate 10 state awards will be given  Average amount of award $1.2M  LHDs have been given the opportunity to submit proposals for this program area that will be the basis of the Kansas application  14 LHDs have indicated an intent to apply Bee Wise Immunize To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices.

15 School Located Vaccination Outcomes  Description of SLV to include number of students enrolled and number or percentage vaccinated  Description of processes that were implemented to address sustainability via billing and improved efficiencies  Description of VFC eligibility and insurance status of all students vaccinated  Report of the number of insurance claims submitted, denied and reimbursed  Report on the total amount billed and reimbursed Bee Wise Immunize To protect the health and environment of all Kansans by promoting responsible choices.
