And a filler number X is any number that you don’t know and you have to figure it out. X is a unknown #/variable that you need to find out in a equation X can be any number in an equation, the same goes for any other number (also known as a variable) X is the missing number in an equation of math X is a unknown number that can be used for any number X is the variable that you have to figure out. For ex: 32+X=33. How would you figure out what X is? X is the way to explain an unknown number. You always find out what X is. You don’t always call it X. It could be N or Z or any other number. X represents a number you are solving for X is the unknown number in an equation X = a number in a equation X is a missing variable in an equation X represents a number you do not know X is the unknown number that you are trying to figure out X is a variable. A variable is a substitute for a number that you don’t know yet X is just a variable for a number you don’t know. It substitutes the number you are solving to find out A number you are trying to figure out is hidden behind X It’s a number that hasn’t been decided yet. It’s the number you need to find out. X is the variable that must be found in a problem X is a variable. It’s just like a blank space. You pretend there’s nothing there. X means any number you assign to be X X is a placeholder in an equation It is a place holder for the unknown amount X is a variable. A variable is a replacement for ANY number

2. Mental Math Club Wrap Up I will pass back the project at the end of class. “See problem for comments” means see the specific problems for the comments. Use your score as a gage about how much effort you are putting into this class. Project was out of 50 points and counted as part of your project/test/quiz grade (60%) There will be no redo's but I am available to discuss individual projects and questions.

4. Test Extra Credit Question Lucky Leaf Lettuce Monday, the Produce manager at a store stacked the display case with 80 heads of lettuce. By the end of the day, some of the lettuce had been sold. On Tuesday, the manager surveyed the display case and counted the number of heads that were left. He decided to add an equal number of heads. (He doubled the leftovers.) By the end of the day, he had sold the same number of heads as Monday. On Wednesday, the manager decided to triple the number of heads that he had left. He sold the same number that day, too. At the end of this day there were no heads of lettuce left. How many were sold each day? Must show work to receive full credit.
