STaR stands for S chool T echnology and R eadiness  It is a tool that teachers may use to self-assess their use of technology and analyze ways to improve their teaching in the 21 st century.  It is aligned with the Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020.

 The Texas STaR Chart was developed around the four key domains of the Texas Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020  Teaching and Learning  Educator Preparation and Development  Leadership, Administration, and Instructional Support  Infrastructure and Technology To read the Long-Range Plan for Technology, 2006-2020, go to http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/technology/lrpt/lrpt_lrpt.html http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/technology/lrpt/lrpt_lrpt.html

 To create and/or update the district’s technology plan.  To set benchmarks and goals.  To measure the use of technology by students and teachers.  By the campus and district to document progress toward meeting No Child Left Behind, Title II, Part D requirements and document the use of funds.  To apply for grants.  To determine funding priorities. 9  The STaR Chart rates the use of technology in four different ways for four different areas.  Early Tech  Developing Tech  Advanced Tech  Target Tech  Target Tech is the goal for each area

 As you complete the chart, you will see where you fall on the chart  Example: Consider your use of digital content in the classroom. The Target Tech, or goal, is for you and your students to “have on demand access to all appropriate technology and digital resources anytime/anywhere for technology integrated curriculum activities on the campus, in the district, at home, or key locations in the community.”  Are you there yet?  Only 0.9% of campuses in Texas are.

 Most likely you fall within one of the other three categories. If you fall within “Developing Tech” you “have regular weekly access and use of technology and digital resources for curriculum activities in my classroom, library, or lab.”  By knowing where you are, and knowing the goal, you can proceed with a plan!

 Schools across the nation that have implemented programs that make technology part of the everyday class experience have documented:  Better Attendance  More student interest  Fewer behavior problems  Higher test scores

 For the past three years, ECHS ratings show:  Developing Technology in both:  Teaching and Learning  Educator Preparation and Development  Advanced Technology in both:  Leadership, Administration & Instructional Support  Infrastructure for Technology

Dev. Tech: 9-14, Advanced Tech: 15-20

 STaR Chart can help you assess and analyze  It will help your campus plan  You will know where you are and where you are going with technology in the classroom  ECHS rankings have remained stable
