6 As a result of the Needs Assessment process, the Long Range Planning Committee identified the following needs to be addressed by the long range plan: Written curriculum must include the integration of technology. Instruction must develop students’ higher order thinking skills, creativity and problem solving provide more professional development to teachers and administrators move toward its goal of a one‐to‐one environment for all students and teachers. provide more online learning opportunities for students and teachers

7 promote the use of digital resources Continue to use technology as a means to provide information to parents and the community All district systems must be upgraded on a regular basis to support departmental functions. The district student information system needs to be replaced due to discontinued support by the company. provide a robust, reliable infrastructure to support the instructional needs of teachers and students The District wireless infrastructure needs to be upgraded with more security.

8 The committee also created a profile of what a student should know and be able to do to be successful in Irving schools and beyond. Students must: Evaluate & apply information Think critically Access and find relevant information Problem solve Write for an authentic audience Demonstrate financial literacy Become well rounded in academics, fine arts, and athletics Develop active listening skills Work, think, and produce collaboratively Use available technology Understand the legalities and ethics of technology Be risk takers Be flexible and open to new ideas Be productive citizens Develop a sense of responsibility rather than entitlement Demonstrate social responsibility Develop life‐long learning skills

10 Goals are designed to address the following components of the Texas’ 4 Long Range Plan Goal 1 -- Teaching and Learning Goal 2 – Educator preparedness and development Goal 3 -- Leadership, Administration, Support Goal 4 – Infrastructure

11 Objectives address goal needs. They are documented to be correlated with four State and Federal mandates within the plan. NCLB- No Child Left Behind E- Rate- FCC Universal Service Fund LRPT – Texas’ Long Range Plan for Technology STaR -- School Technology and Readiness Chart * Each objective lists the funds necessary to accomplish the objective.

13 Irving ISD will Infuse higher level thinking with technology and quality instruction to ensure engaging learning experiences for all teachers and students. LRPT category: Teaching and Learning

14 Objectives : Integrate Technology Applications TEKS and higher order thinking into 100% of curriculum areas. Increase technology integration 10% annually as demonstrated by students, teachers and administrators. Strive to achieve and maintain a personal computing device ratio of 1:1 for both students and professional educators.

18 Objectives: Provide opportunities to orient students and teachers in appropriate use of technology. Provide opportunities to educate students, teachers, and parents in Internet safety including but not limited to identity theft, malware, social networking tools, and cyberbullying.

19 Irving ISD will Ensure educator professional development is on‐going, high quality, based on the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS), and increasing in rigor so that student learning and 21st century skills are increased. LRPT category: Educator Preparation and Development

20 Objectives: Provide differentiated, informal and formal, job‐embedded technology training based on campus needs. Model ways to address students' diverse learning styles, working strategies, and abilities by increasing the use of technology where appropriate in all staff Development. 100% of instructional staff will apply professional learning to improve instructional practice, model lifelong learning, and exhibit leadership by promoting and demonstrating effective use of digital tools and resources.

27 Evaluation of Technology Plan IISD will use: Texas Star Chart LoTI levels of teacher performance as measured through walk through evaluations Quantity and quality of TechFusion submissions by teachers Quantity and quality of Media Fair entries Quality of student products Quantity and quality of technology ideas embedded in the curriculum Blackboard (number of hits on server) Number and types of online learning sessions

Monitoring and documentation of community and parent involvement Records of staff member participation in technology training monitored by attendance sheets and professional development records TAKS scores, district interim assessments, and a district‐developed technology standards assessment. data from networking monitoring tools, hardware and software inventories, repair data, and other technical support metrics Updates on an annual basis, if needed, to reflect the district’s current financial ability or the advent of new technologies

29 Suggestions for Technology Plan Plan could be outlined more in depth about exactly what experiences students should be exposed to. Provide more Professional development opportunities Campuses should have equal access to technology Students should have input in what they believe they want as their technology goals. Provide additional personnel for assistance with professional development and for technological issues.

30 Require all professional staff to effectively facilitate teaching and learning by actively participating in high quality staff development and using a variety of technological resources to engage students so that all graduates can succeed in a 21st century environment.
