2 On Friday, November 8, 2013, one of the worst typhoons ever slammed into the Philippines

3 Haiyan left a wide path of destruction and debris in its wake

4 14 million people are affected

5 Over 4 million people are displaced

6 1.1 million houses are damaged

7 World Renew is responding through its local partner, the Christian Reformed Church of the Philippines (CRCP)

8 As a first phase, World Renew and the CRCP provided food assistance, potable water, temporary shelter, and hygiene supplies to 4,000 families

9 As a second phase, World Renew is providing: Generators Temporary shelters (tents and tarps) Single-burner stoves and fuel Kitchen kits Hygiene items Sleeping mats Mosquito nets Cash-for-work community projects

10 In response to the immense emotional needs, World Renew is also providing trauma counseling

11 This is being carried out in seven municipalities on three islands: Samar Island ~ Guiuan municipality, Eastern Samar province Panay Island ~ Estancia municipality, Iloilo province Leyte Island ~ Palo municipality, Leyte province

13 Three sets of International Relief Managers (IRMs) are on site coordinating World Renew’s response: Leyte Island ~ Harry & Annie Bergshoeff (Mississauga, Ontario) Panay Island ~ Harry & Greta Harsevoort (Hamilton, Ontario) Samar Island ~ Bernie Schaaf (Tinley Park, Illinois)
