Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft ZEA-1 | Technology for Excellent Science SKADI Product Breakdown

Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft ZEA-1 | Technology for Excellent Science SKADI Product Breakdown  Green box - work packages – FZJ  Red box - work packages – LLB

Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft ZEA-1 | Technology for Excellent Science SKADI Product Breakdown  Each task has a separate list of requirements

Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft ZEA-1 | Technology for Excellent Science Neutron Extraction Components Description Extremely radiation hard Part of Target Monolith Material for Neutron guide beryllium, low “m” allowed Cooling required Possible execution as insert made of concrete with integrated beryllium guide Cross section of neutron guide 30x30mm 2 Challenge:  Manufacturing of beryllium guide  Embedding the beryllium guide in concrete  Implementation of cooling systems

Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft ZEA-1 | Technology for Excellent Science Bender Components Description Horizontal curved Guide from Borofloat glass (Radius ca. 80m) Vacuum vessel Necessary vacuum level 10 -2 mbar Close to neutron guide / space requirements Cooling of neutron guide in vacuum / access for piping Cross section of neutron guide 30x30mm 2 Challenge:  Implementation of cooling systems

Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft ZEA-1 | Technology for Excellent Science Polarizer Components Description Vertical changer in vacuum vessel for four Positions: 1x Neutron guide 800mm length 1x Polarizer 500mm length 1x Polarizer 800mm length 1x additional position Separate vacuum, necessary vacuum level 10 -2 -10 -3 mbar Control of movement: adjustment under neutron, motor cradle, xy adjustment Challenge:  Adjustment under neutron  Shielding for electronic components

Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft ZEA-1 | Technology for Excellent Science Spin Flipper Components Description Positioned directly after the Polarizer but still in the bunker Without vacuum vessel Alignment shall only be possible off-line. Accuracy of the alignment shall be 0.5 mm in all directions Cooling Challenge:  Implementation of cooling systems

Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft ZEA-1 | Technology for Excellent Science Slim Collimation Components Description Movable neutron guides in vacuum vessel necessary vacuum level 10 -3 -10 -2 mbar Pneumatic actuator for movable neutron guides Cross section of neutron guide 30x30mm 2 Vessel inner lined with shielding materials Position of active blinds 20m, 14m, 8m, Cross section for opening of active blinds 30x30mm2 Cross section for opening of passive blinds 32x32mm2 Guide field with low field gradient along the collimation

Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft ZEA-1 | Technology for Excellent Science Chopper Systems Components Description Three Choppers for 14/7 Hz modes with counter rotating two disks each. Chopper housing necessary vacuum level 10 -3 mbar Interface to slim and wide collimation Challenge:  Guiding the magnetic field by chopper

Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft ZEA-1 | Technology for Excellent Science Sample Area Components Description Cross-section 3x3m 2 Top access 2,5x2,5m 2 Sites access by motorized door Guiding the magnetic fields with the collimation nose to the sample position Snails blinds on the collimation end Possible changing the sample distance Challenge:  Design of the shielding around sample area  Design of the snails blinds

Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft ZEA-1 | Technology for Excellent Science Shielding Components Description The several components of the shielding along the instrument should have a standard interlocking method A standard shielding sandwich shall be designed With the hall crane the single segments have to be able to be removed without further need of assistance Possible integration of the first chopper shield to the bunker

Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft ZEA-1 | Technology for Excellent Science Detektor Tube Components Description Main tube, rail system, support and coarse alignment will be provide by LLB Support for Detectors and housing for electronics will be provide by FZJ

Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft ZEA-1 | Technology for Excellent Science Project status The instrument was broken down into separated products/components SKADI Product Breakdown was created The work packages were assigned to the corresponding laboratories For each component a requirement list is created and constantly updated Currently we are working on the development of components We are starting with the design phase beginning of September

Mitglied der Helmholtz-Gemeinschaft ZEA-1 | Technology for Excellent Science Project status We need:  VPN-Access for download of CATIA V6 and license  CAD-Data for SKADI place in the neutron guide hall with information for beam implementation and floor requirements  CAD-Data for Bunker with information on the access, pipeline implementation etc.  Data for Place for neutron extraction in the target monolith  In future: shielding calculation, CAD-Modell from chopper housing  Would be useful: Information/Requirements for Standards for example for pipeline (witch norm, diameter, flanges etc.)
