4 Building a database for ICT indicators to measure, analyze and monitor ICT sector in Egypt. Providing decision makers with up-to-date and accurate ICT indicators. Providing international organizations with required data and indicators which reflect the positioning and the performance of ICT sector in Egypt. 5 Measuring the Information Society in Egypt The project has a wide scope, measuring ICT usage in the following areas: ICT usage by IT Club, Internet Coffee and ISP Company. ICT usage by households and individuals. ICT usage by businesses. (Note about questionnaire) ICT usage in government sector. ICT usage in Education sector. ICT usage in Health sector. Mobile data services.

6 This questionnaire has been formulated in light of international ICT core indicators recommended by partnership on measuring ICT for development project adopted by many international organizations. The questionnaire mainly includes 7 sections: Private businesses basic indicators. ICT usage by businesses (Fixed lines, Mobile, Internet, Computer). Human resources (employees and training). E-commerce & E- government. Security and Privacy. ICT expenditure. R & D activities. ICT Usage.. ICT Usage by Private Businesses 1-Questionnaire

7 Frame: has been acquired from the census of enterprises for the year 2006. Sample Design: proportion stratified sample with out replacement. Target Population: According to international organizations recommendations and international comparison requirements, the firms are belonging to ISC.4 and in the same time their # of employees is at least 10. 10 Finally the sample size is distributed across the sectors based on the contribution to the GDP and collected face 2 face & entered by CAPMAS. Moreover we conducted in the same time another survey concerned with the firms less than 9 employees because they employ a large portion of the employees in our country. consequently we assign only 20% of the sample Micro enterprises and the remaining for the others. 18 Refreshing (updating) the framework annually. Representing some indicators in more high frequency instead of low frequency. The enterprises which can not be easily classified as private or public sector. The journey is still long; but we are sure that we are on the right track, believing that sincere cooperation with international organizations and hard work will lead us to achieve our goals.
