We learn particularly well from the act of creating or expressing something for others to see. We learn a lot by just observing the activity of our peers. By understanding the contexts of others, we can teach in a more transformational way (constructivism). Encourages individual thinking (have to respond before viewing). Make sure you post the question in the forum itself, not the general forum introductions. Be aware of the 30 minute default window for editing. Q & A forums Can help control participants who tend to dominate conversations. Each person posts one discussion For one continuous threaded conversation. Allows students to see the entire perspective of the class without additional clicking (or by only reading certain participants) – not a good way to communicate vital info, however. Single simple discussion Good all purpose forum that allows for multiple postings by each participant. Great format for a help desk forum. Standard forum for general use

Moodle Core includes 4 assignment types: Upload a single file A student can upload a single file. Advanced uploading of files Multiple file submission, allowing students to type a message alongside their submission. Online text Students type directly into Moodle Offline Activity Teachers provide a description and due date for an assignment outside of Moodle.

Name activity as Topic 1 journal and add a fictitious prompt. Task 2: Add a Forum discussion Add a Standard forum for general use (or one of the other types). Add your prompt and Save changes. Used for private communication between student/teacher or student/student. Teachers who have multiple courses can view messages from any of their students in any course section. Messages are not course specific.
