Galatians Teaches Idolatry Galatians 4:8-11

Galatians 4:8 Formerly, when you did not know God, you were enslaved to those that by nature are not gods. 9 But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more?

“The heart of all evil is idolatry itself. It is the de-godding of God. It is the creature swinging his puny fist in the face of his Maker and saying, in effect, ‘I’ll be by own god!’ Small wonder that the sin most frequently said to arouse God’s wrath is not murder, say, or pillage, or any other ‘horizontal’ barbarism, but idolatry—that which dethrones God. That is also why, in every sin, it is God who is the most offended party.” D.A. Carson

LURED AND ENSNARED

LURED AND ENSNARED Exodus 32:1 When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.”

LURED AND ENSNARED Galatians 1:6 I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7a not that there is another one! … Galatians 3:3 Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh?

LURED AND ENSNARED Galatians 4:9b how can you turn back again to the weak and worthless elementary principles of the world, whose slaves you want to be once more? 10 You observe days and months and seasons and years!

LURED AND ENSNARED Hebrews 4:15b we have [Jesus] who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet was without sin.

LURED AND ENSNARED 1 Corinthians 10:13 No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it. 14 Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.
