2  Have you ever heard the saying "one man's trash is another man's treasure"? I am not a man, but I consider bits and pieces of "standardized" (receipts, charge slips, fabric pattern papers, etcetera) scraps to be treasure. Integrating these snippets with numbers, which are universally recognizable symbols, is a way for me to create balanced compositions and engage you with a universal language composed of ordinary characters in a fresh, unconventional way through the use of experimental media.

3  Rebecca B. Farris is currently a senior at Appalachian State University, majoring in Studio Art with a primary concentration in painting and a secondary concentration in photography. She is pursuing an internship this Fall in the Photo Archives department of the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History in Washington D.C.. Rebecca was the recipient of the Plemmon's Student Union Purchase Award in 2008 for her Downtown Boone piece, as well as in 2009 for her 4 and 9 Series. Rebecca also recently had a show at the local art studio, The Collective on Depot, as a result of their Artist in Residence award she received at the end of last semester.
