1 SeaFAC LEAP Parent Guidelines Learning About Peanut (LEAP) study – 640 infants age 4 months to 11 months – All had either moderate-severe eczema, egg allergy, or a family history of food allergy After skin testing – 319 were fed peanut protein at least 3 days a week until age 5 – 331 were told to continue peanut avoidance Results at age 5: – 86% reduction of peanut allergy in those eating peanuts – Skin testing an oral challenges in infants was safe

2 SeaFAC LEAP Parent Guidelines Consider peanut skin testing in infants 4-11 months old with one of the following risk factors: – moderate-severe eczema affecting more than 75% of the skin – Food allergy (e.g. milk or egg allergy) – Family history of food allergy Consider introducing peanut into the diet of all infants 4-11 months old who do not have risk factors

3 Forms of Peanut to feed infants (minimum 3 days a week) – Smooth peanut butter (mix 2 tsp with mashed fruit such as banana) – Bamba ® snack (2/3 of a 3.5 ox. Bag) available on Amazon.com – 1/3 oz. of finely ground peanuts mixed with yogurt
