2 Course Description  This course addresses the technical, aesthetic, and conceptual challenges implicit with digital photography. You can expect to learn how the camera works, the history of photography, photographic excellence, and in-depth knowledge of Photoshop as well many other photo editing tools.  You will be taking hundreds of photographs!  Art Room/Computer Lab  Lectures, Demonstrations, Practice: Mon-Wed in the art room  Labs: Thurs-Fri computer applications  Prerequisites: computer skills  Credits: 1

5 Instructional Methods  A wide variety of methods are employed to assist the student with many different approaches to the technical and intellectual production of a photograph  Lectures  Demonstrations  Class discussion/Virtual discussions  Individual/group projects  In-depth off campus practice  Labs  Written self assessment  Peer assistance and evaluation  Tests and quizzes

Week 2 How the Camera Works The machine and its parts and light energy’s role. Make a camera and know the parts of the camera. Week 3 FramingThe view finder’s role. How to know what goes in the photograph and what is left out. Week 4The Histogram How to read and understand the light meter. Good lighting always. Week 5 Depth of Field Blur out unimportant details.Focus on meaning.
