2 Before shopping the first thing to do is to create a shopping list. A shopping list is a detailed list of kinds and amounts of food you need to buy. Also when making your list look at sale ads in case you may be able to stock up on items that are on sale that week. Organize your shopping list in sections of the aisles and sections of the grocery store so you do not need to go back and forth around the store.

3 Deciding Where To Shop! There are four common types of food stores to research before going to shop: -Supermarkets: Sell a wide selection of both food and household products, they tend to have lower prices. -Discount Supermarkets: Sell almost all food and household products at discounted products because they offer less variety and customer services. -Specialty Stores: Carry only one type of food item such as a bakery or seafood store. Prices at these stores are usually higher but shoppers like them for the personalized service and quality. -Convenience Store: Sell a limited selection of products and at a higher price than supermarkets but offer more convenient location, longer hours and fast service.

4 Deciding How Much Food To Buy! Factors to consider: -Food Budget-The prices of food and the quantity of food is different so look at your budget before you go to buy. -Serving Size-Make sure when you buy that you will have enough to use for your recipe. -Storage Space-Before buying large amounts of food make sure you will have enough space to store the extra food. -Shelf Life-Don’t buy to much extra food that will expire before you get to use it so that you don’t have to throw anything away causing your large buy to be not useful.

5 Quality of Foods! Meat, eggs and dairy are graded. A grade is a indication of the quality of the product, the higher of the grade the higher quality of the food. There are three types of brands for products: -National brands-brands of food that are advertised nationwide, usually are of high quality but cost more. -House brands: brands of food that are sold by a store or a chain of stores. Usually have the same quality as national brand foods but cost less. -Generic brands: brands of food that have plain labels containing only the names of the products and other required label information. Usually cost less and may not have the same higher quality as house and national brands.
