2 Randomly Select Teams O ‘Friends’ make poor editors O Match your cards with three other people O Form a square of desks O Bring your writing materials, highlighters, notebooks O Set your writing on the desk before you. O As a group, do the following things:

3 Review the Assignment O Using Suzanne Collins’ style of writing, recreate a scene from The Hunger Games from a character’s perspective other than Katniss.

4 Tell Team Your Idea O Choose a major scene described in the book and tell it from another character’s point of view who was involved in the scene. O Take the perspective of someone like Effie, Haymitch, Gale, Mrs. Everdeen or Prim. Describe what’s happening in their lives back home or in the Capitol as they carry on their daily routine but also watch the Hunger Games from a distance. O Assume the role of one of the other tributes in the arena and create an entirely new scene describing what they’re going through

5 Review the ‘Must-Haves’ O A 1 st person point of view (You become the character) O A detailed, descriptive setting O An antagonist & protagonist O Dialogue from at least two characters At least one major conflict Man Vs. Man, Man Vs. Society, Man Vs. Self, Man Vs. Nature, Man Vs. The Unknown, Man Vs. Technology O At least two different types of figurative language Simile, Metaphor, Hyperbole, Onomatopoeia, Alliteration, Personification

6 Engage Process Objectively O Offer suggestions constructively Put yourself in the writer’s place Use words gently, but honestly O Hear suggestions with an open mind O Avoid being defensive O When rewriting, try suggestions honestly

7 Read the Opening O Listen carefully as each writer reads O Be prepared to observe and report O As reader finishes, each person makes a comment O Find one positive before discussing needs O Make all “needs” based on project criteria O After all read openings, discuss writing difficulties

8 Read and Listen as Audience O Each writer reads to team O Begin constructive comments with “I’d like to …(read, see, hear, understand, etc.) O Listeners comment on Clarity of setting detailWording strength Sentence structureDialog strength Protagonist/AntagonistsConflict O Be specific with suggestions – help with revision suggestions
