4. Richmond’s Key Points State Capitol of Virginia, Nicknamed the River City Population of approx. 200,000 within the city limits and 1.26 million over the metropolitan area (3 rd largest in VA). Geographically located within 2 hours drive of Washington, D.C., Charlottesville, Williamsburg, and Virginia Beach. Set on the fall line of the James River and the intersections of Interstates 95 and 64. Climate includes 4 distinct seasons. Virginia Commonwealth University vcu.edu vcu.edu A premier public research university located in downtown Richmond with more than 31,163 students pursuing undergraduate and graduate degrees (23,962 undergraduate). The largest undergraduate majors are Biology, Psychology, and Mass Communications while the largest Graduate majors are Social Work, Business Administration, and Nursing. The University had a record $263 million in sponsored research funding in 2014. The VCU School of Arts is the #1 ranked public school of arts in the country. Originally established in 1838 as the Medical College of Virginia Hospitals, it transitioned into the current VCUHS in 2000.
