GEAR UP – CAREER CONNECTIONS  “Pick the brains” of people who work every day doing the things you might be interested in doing!  Hear how they got where they are now and what advice they might have for you as a high school student.  Come ready with questions. Space is limited - sign up now! Sign-ups are in Room 228. See Mrs. Maguire or Mr. Pfeifer if you have any questions.

LC Seminar  Sem-i-nar (noun): a meeting in which you receive information on and training in a particular subject; a class offered to a small group of students at a high school.  Purpose Statement: Provide the time and space for sharing and collecting information related to student’s high school and post-high school plans with the guidance of a consistent staff advisor for all for years.

7. The GEAR UP staff is looking for your input to help us develop lessons and give information you will find helpful during your Seminar classes. Thank you for participating! Your feedback is valuable to us. We will use it in our future planning.

8. Seminar Discussion  As a class, discuss your thoughts about Seminar class in general. Here are some questions to get you started:  Do any of you have friends at other schools who do their “Advisory” class in a different way?  What is your favorite part about Seminar?  What is your least favorite part?  If students could have more input into Seminar, what are some changes they might make?

9. Seminar Discussion As a class, discuss the following: Seminar is the best way to find out information about what GEAR UP has to offer. Do you agree or disagree? Do you have suggestions on communication methods that would be more effective?

10. Seminar Discussion Discuss the following Seminar lesson topics and, as a class, rank them in order of importance to you.  Topics related to life at LC (activities, academic success, involvement)  Topics related to academic issues (testing, registration, academic resources)  Topics related to life after high school (college planning, scholarships, job prep)

11. Seminar Discussion  Now that you have discussed as a class, please complete an individual survey. Your responses will help guide planning for future lessons and overall Seminar structure.
