3 What does the word Social Studies mean? O various aspects or branches of the study of human society, considered as an educational discipline.

4 What does the word History mean? O the study of past events, particularly in human affairs. Or O the whole series of past events connected with someone or something.

5 What do you think you are going to learn about this year? History? or Social Studies?

6 What’s the point? O You have your first grade of the year!

7 Why do people end up in textbooks ?

8 How does someone decide what goes in a textbook?

9 We’re going to write a textbook!

10 Textbook Page Assignment O You will be making a page in a textbook O Choose an event that happened to you over the summer O It can be something you were scared of O It can be something you never did before O It can be something you were really excited/proud about

11 Requirements: O There must be proof of the event O Pictures, tickets,agendas O There must be at least one witness to the event O There must be a paragraph write up about the event O Items to include in write up O The date and location of the event. O What kind of event was it? O How long did the event last? O A description of the event. O People in attendance at the event (your witnesses). O The outcome of the event.

12 Requirements: O The complete textbook page must fit on a regular piece of paper ( 8 ½ x 11) O It can be on white or colored paper O You can use any resources you’d like O Crayons, markers, pencils, glitter, printer, computer, scanner, etc O The completed textbook page should look something like this… O The textbook page assignment is due on Friday September 12 th Any Questions?
