4 COMPLETING A CAREER INVENTORY IS THE 1ST STEP
You need your IPAD Answer all the questions as truthful as possible. Your result will help you plan for post-secondary (college, etc) You can find what college offers your career. Safe website, created for students in Florida to better prepare themselves for Postsecondary.

You will need your IPAD. –how many of you have already created an account from Middle school? New students: on the right corner, click “Create New Account” Click on: “High school student” Follow the instructions Raise your hand if you have any questions.

6 COMPLETING A CAREER INVENTORY IS THE 1ST STEP
After completing your profile Get Ready for Postsecondary or work a. Click on: Take assessments Click on: “Interest Profiler”, then answer all the questions. After completing the survey, your top interest will show with career clusters, education level requires; and salary Based the way you answered the questions, now you have a list of careers that you can explore. You can read about the careers and help you decide which one fit you best. At home you can research colleges that offer the specific career (s) that you are looking for.

8 How important is it to earn credits?
It is ESSENTIAL to success! Credits determine what grade you are in and where you will be placed for the next year. Credits determine whether or not you may progress to the next level of classes (11 credits are needed to be promoted to 11th grade. Credits determine if you may take dual enrollment classes at LSCC. Credits determine whether or not you will graduate.

9 How important is my GPA? You must have at least a 2.0 unweighted cumulative GPA to graduate. Every class you take counts – including elective credits. Every D (1 point) or F (0 points) reduces your GPA and hurts your chance for a successful graduation. Honors and AP classes count more than regular! You need 3.0 unweighted to Dual Enroll at LSSC. You need 2.0 GPA to Dual Enroll at Lake Tech College. Many scholarships require a 2.7 GPA or higher

4 Math (Algebra 1 EOC (must pass for Credit) Geo w/EOC (30%), 2 additional math. 3 Science (2 of 3 with lab) Biology 1 w/EOC (30%) 2 additional rigorous science. 3 Social Studies (1 World History; US History w/EOC (30%); US Government (1/2); Economics (1/2) 1 credit (HOPE) 1 credit (Fine or performing arts, Speech, Debate, or Practical Arts) 8 Electives Requirement: at least 1 course within the 24 credits. Driver ED can count. 24 credits 2.0 GPA

12 Scholar Designation 4 ELA (ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS) 4 Math (Algebra 1 EOC (must pass for Credit) Geo w/EOC (must passed), 2 additional math. 3 Science (2 of 3 with lab) Biology 1 w/EOC (must passed); Chemistry; Physics.. 3 Social Studies (1 World History; US History w/EOC (must passed); US Government (1/2); Economics (1/2) 1 credit (HOPE) 1 credit (Fine or performing arts, Speech, Debate, or Practical Arts) 2 Foreign Language (same language) 6 Electives 1 elective must be AP or Dual Enrollment Online Requirement: at least 1 course within the 24 credits. Driver ED can count. Must pass ELA-FSA Reading 245 or higher and passed all EOC exams. 24 credits

13 ACCEL 3 years option (EGO)
4 ELA (English Language Arts) 4 Math (Algebra 1 EOC (must pass for Credit) Geo w/EOC (30%), 2 additional math. 3 Science (2 of 3 with lab) Biology 1 w/EOC (30%) 2 additional rigorous science. 3 Social Studies (1 World History; US History w/EOC (30%); US Government (1/2); Economics (1/2) 1 credit (Fine or performing arts, Speech, Debate, or Practical Arts) No HOPE required 3 Elective Credits 18 credits 2.0 GPA Pass Reading FCAT 245 and pass Algebra 1 EOC HOPE and online are NOT a requirement. Parents must sign.

COURSE CAN BE ½ OR FULL CREDIT. ½ CREDIT—CAN TAKE 18 WEEKS TO COMPLETE 1 FULL CREDIT-CAN TAKE 36 WEEKS TO COMPLETE (full year) Read the description of the course Pick your favorite subject Stay away from courses that require EOCs.

Florida Scholar Medallion Gold Seal 4 ElA 4 Math 3 Science (2 labs) 3 Social Studies 2 Foreign Languages 1 Fine OR Identified Practical Art OR .5 credit in each 16 credits 3.5 Weighted GPA 3.0 Weighted GPA 1 HOPE 100 hours 75 hours 1290 SAT/29 ACT 1170 SAT/26 ACT Plus a minimum of 3 Career and Technical Education credits in one vocational program (see LMHS Industry list) See the handout

17 What should you know about Bright Futures?
You apply December 1st of your seniors. Your 9th-10th grades will average to the GPA to earn the scholarships You can start earning your Volunteer hours right now. Don’t wait for your senior year. The scholarships are reviewed every year by the state, so things can be changed. It is your responsibility to keep up it because of the changes. tm Volunteer form is available in our website: click on Guidance; click forms

18 What can you do if you are currently failing your classes?
Speak to your teachers Attend tutoring Ask a friend for help/study partner Study/complete your assignments on time Make an appointment to see me. Failure is not an option.
