Maylis Concepcion & Clifton Frazier

People believe that Snug Harbor (Located in Staten Island) is haunted. At first people believed it was haunted by a woman known as the matron, who roamed the halls of the old sailor retirement home wearing a white dress. She was infamous for allegedly having an illegitimate son with a man in the retirement home and locking the mentally-ill boy in the basement. It is said that he was stuck in that basement for 13 years, until he got angry, and broke free from the clutches of the chains. He killed his mother in the house and was hunted down for his murder and hung in a tree behind the Matron’s House. INTRODUCTION

The times of investigation differed for different results. Daytime: 11am – 1pm Nighttime: 6pm – 8pm The number of students differed for different results. Day – 17 students Night – 8 Students INTRODUCTION II

Snug Harbor was built in 1801 for sailors who were retired, or were done with their services. It was built specifically for sailors who sailed under an American Flag, whether they worked on a naval ship or a commercial ship. Admittance to Snug Harbor was not limited to people of different racial backgrounds or origins. Men with a minimum of 5 years in service could live out the rest of their lives there. It was first commissioned by a sailor named Richard Robert Randall and though he did not live to see his completed project, he put in his will that he wanted this place to be completed and cared for after his death. HISTORY

Our objective was to discover the answers to our two hypothesis’, we also had our own personal questions that was wanted answers to as well. After watching the history and videos of Snug Harbor, we were basically overflowing with questions and the anticipation to get to the haunted harbor was sky- high. OBJECTIVE

Our first hypothesis was as follows: If we capture more EVP’s at night than day then it supports the idea that ghosts are more active at night. Our second hypothesis was as follows: If we capture more responses (visual/verbal) the men/woman, does this mean that ghosts have a gender preference? Clifton believed that the number of EVP’s captured wouldn’t change depending on the time of day, and that we’d get more responses when males asked questions. Maylis believed that we’d get more responses at night than day, and that the spirit would respond more to female voices. HYPOTHESIS

This device is able to pick up sounds that the human ear normally could not hear. We had this device recording the entire time we were asking questions and it picked up on the ghostly responses we had not yet heard. VOICE RECORDER

This device phases through multiple radio stations in rapid intervals. Ghosts can speak over these radio frequencies so that we could hear them. We know that it is something paranormal speaking to us because it is the same voice spanning over multiple radio stations and not just random DJ’s. P-SB7 SPIRIT BOX

NIGHT VISION CAMCORDER This camcorder is used when you are investigating in the dark. It uses low lights and infrared vision.

This meter measures disturbance in the electromagnetic field around us. It is said (and backed up with proof) that whenever something paranormal is near, it draws in the surrounding energy and that disturbs the electromagnetic field around us. This device picks up on that and the more lights that are lit around it, the more of a disturbance there is. K-II METER

The Mel-Meter is a lot like the K-II Meter. The only difference is that the Mel- Meter used numbers and the K-II uses lights, but they are designed to pick up on the same exact thing; electromagnetic disturbances. MEL-METER

Procedures are extremely important for any type of investigation, be it normal or paranormal. They let you know what you’re doing before you have to do it so once you begin investigating you’re not lost and reacting to everything. Procedures also include working with certain devices and learning how to use them correctly in certain situations. PROCEDURES

The first thing we had to do before we did EVP sessions was to do an EMF sweep. We would use our Mel-Meters and our KII Meters to check around the house so we could see what would trigger the meters. Not only were we looking for paranormal activity around the house, we were also looking for things that would trigger the devices; such as outlets, pipes, and other electronic appliances. EMF SWEEP

An EVP Session is when you or a group of people sit quietly in a room or place that is believed to be active. They ask questions and if anything paranormal is around, they’ll respond. As stated earlier, paranormal entities are usually inaudible to human ears and the EVP sessions are made so that we can hear any possible responses. EVP SESSION

A Spirit Box Session is a lot like an EVP session in the sense that you have to heavily rely on your sense of hearing. There are some differences, however. The Spirit Box Session is somewhat more difficult to do if you’re inexperienced and it requires a more acute sense of hearing as well so that you may hear voices over the grumbling and static. SPIRIT BOX SESSION

A K-II session can be very brief. You sweep through different rooms; checking for any electric spikes and the like so that when you go searching later, you wont be fooled by an outlet or wiring. K-II SESSION

An Ouilus Session is something that isn’t used often during an investigation. It’s now released as an iPhone app which makes some question it’s validity. It works almost like a Spirit Box but instead of a speaker it is the app that picks up on the syllables that a possible paranormal entity had troubles saying loudly. The app repeats everything that the ghost may have say but only louder. We used it while at Snug Harbor and communicated with the paranormal being. OUILUS SESSION

Photography is a very basic way of investigating. Taking multiple pictures of places that are both normal and suspicious. It is also something important to do as well because pictures can pick up things instantly and freeze it in a frame. Things like orbs, and possible apparitions can be captured in a picture. PHOTOGRAPHY

DATA GRAPHS

In conclusion, we have gathered evidence that could suggest that ghost COULD be real. The both of our hypothesis’ were answered as well. We captured a lot more responses from the EVP Session at night than at day, that means that ghosts may be more active at night. We received a lot more responses from possible ghosts when men asked questions than women, that means the ghosts might have a male preference when answering questions. CONCLUSION

Our experiences in Snug Harbor were bizarre and I think we speak for everyone when we say that there’s something out there. It doesn’t have to be demons or specific ghosts, but there’s something out there that’s beyond us. It all requires more investigations. While we didn’t find any full body apparitions, we did find strange and inexplicable orbs, and we heard strange sounds as well as crystal clear responses to our questions. Patience was a large part of our investigations and science was on everyone’s minds at all times. SUMMARY
