7 Work-Study Programs Work-study programs are a form of financial aid in which you perform work in exchange for money for your education. Federal government programs are the primary source of work- study, but individual states or campuses may also offer their own programs to make additional financial aid available to as many students as possible.

8 Year-By-Year Timeline

9 9 th Grade Year Develop a Four-Year Plan Select the most appropriate diploma Join Clubs and activities of interest Take a career interest inventory

10 10 th Grade Year Register and take PSAT. Register and take PLAN. Look for leadership roles in clubs/activities. Start the development of a resume.

11 11 th Grade Year Register and take the PSAT/NMSQT. Register and take the ACT. www.act.org Attend college fairs. Make college visits. Start research about scholarship opportunities. Select colleges that are of top interest. Finish resume.

12 12 th Grade Year Register for fall testing (ACT or SAT). Attend College and Career Fair Start early application process in September. Request letters of recommendations from various sources Apply for scholarships (most deadlines are December 1 st.) Fill out FAFSA forms and financial aid forms from colleges (before February 1 st ) Request transcripts.

Collect your Financial information Federal income tax return SSN # and Driver License Get a PIN at www.pin.ed.govwww.pin.ed.gov Fill out your FAFSA online at www.fafsa.govwww.fafsa.gov Apply on or after January 1, preceding the academic year. Need help? Use “Live Help”icon or call 1-800-4-FED- AID. Don’t forget to print confirmation page. Contact Other Sources (State, etc.)
