Preparedness in Marine pollution and civil protection: Prompt & efficient response, decreasing the environmental impact Past incidents, e.g. Gulf of Mexico: thousands of volunteers to be trained Mediterranean coasts: Rich biodiversity Economic activities High density of population High level of awareness and training required for response to an Oil spill incidents affecting the shorelines POSOW – Kick-Off Meeting – 6 February 2012

3 POSOW Preparedness project for European Civil Protection BASIC FACTS Preparedness for Oil-Polluted Shorelines cleanup and Oiled Wildelife interventions – POSOW project: 24 months duration 5 partners Total eligible costs: 606,112 EC Contribution (75%): 453,770 Involving representatives of national and local authorities, and well-established NGOs POSOW – Kick-Off Meeting – 6 February 2012

9 POSOW Preparedness project for European Civil Protection FOLLOW UP Periodic refreshment courses Maintenance and promotion of the Volunteers Database Production of additional material to ensure continuous availability Make POSOW concept and its package material available to other countries and regions in the Mediterranean region and in Europe.
