2 To Execrate (verb) DEF: To declare to be evil or detestable. To detest greatly. RELATED PARTS OF SPEECH: n/a EX. SENTENCE: “The citizen of Oceania is not allowed to know anything of the tenets of the other two philosophies, but he is taught to execrate them as barbarous outrages upon morality and common sense.”

3 To Stagnate (verb) DEF: To stand still. To not change. RELATED PARTS OF SPEECH: Stagnation, noun EX. SENTENCE: “The economy of many countries was allowed to stagnate, land went out of cultivation, capital equipment was not added to, great blocks of the population were prevented from working and kept half alive by State charity.”

10 Flagrant (adj) DEF: Conspicuously or boldly offensive RELATED PARTS OF SPEECH: Flagrantly, adv. EXAMPLE SENTENCE: Citizens of Oceania could be made to accept the most flagrant violations of reality, because they weren’t intelligent enough to know any better.

11 Apex (noun) DEF: The highest point of something RELATED PARTS OF SPEECH: n/a EX. SENTENCE: At the apex of Oceanic society is Big Brother, who controls the working of the entire Party.
