6 Mine workers union went on strike Wanted higher wages, 8-hour workday, and recognition of the union Against his advisors wishes, TR got involved and invited the owners and the union to the White House

7 Coal Strike of 1902 Coal owners wanted TR to use the army to break the union TR said he would use the army, but to take over the mines “To hell with the Constitution when the people want coal!”

13 Other Regulation TR responded to the growing popular demand for reform by pushing further toward a regulatory government Would go on to pass the Pure Food and Drug Act and the Meat Inspection Act The meat and food drug acts extended government regulation over business to protect the public health and safety, but also benefitted businesses by driving out smaller competitors
