3 What is Upper G.I series ? It is the radiographic examination of the distal esophagus, stomach and duodenum in one examination using a contrast media.

9 Patient preparation Pt should be NPO from midnight until time of examination. food and drink should be withheld for at least 8 hours prior to the exam. The patient is instructed not to smoke or chew gum during the NPO period.
