2 Next Week - Lorton Meadows Field Trip Every child will need to wear warm, old clothes, waterproof jacket and wellies. They will need a disposable packed lunch and drink. We will be back by the normal end of school. (separate letter giving more details) Monday 14th September – 5Cj Tuesday 15th September – 5Lm Wednesday 16th September – 5Ct Thursday 17th September – 5Ws Friday 18th September - 5Ae

3 Welcome Service for Year 5 St Mary’s Church, Edward Road Tuesday 22nd September at 1.30pm A special service to celebrate the arrival of our new Year 5 pupils. Please join us.

4 Open Mornings 9.00am-12.05pm Monday 5th October (parents of girls) Wednesday 7th October (parents of boys) This is an opportunity to join your child in their lessons and experience school as your child experiences it.

5 English Poetry “The Firework Maker’s Daughter” Play scripts and Christmas pantomimes! Please continue to read regularly with your child – at least 3 times a week and sign their reading journal Grammar and spelling tasks will be set weekly Stories from other cultures “The Highwayman” “The Piano” and lots more…

6 Maths Continual development of mathematical skills and understanding in: number, fractions, measurement, properties of shape and statistics. Please support your child in learning their times tables – aim for quick recall, out of order, with equivalent division facts Independent learning will be set once a week

8 Year 5 Overview continued Design Technology 3 x 3 week mini projects Workshop – plastic key ring Textiles – felt making Food – Smoothie making The pupils then start a 9 week project which could involve producing: key racks and racing cars; felt soft toys; sandwiches, salads and biscuits. Art Self-Portrait Still Life Kandinsky painting Flanimals Klimt Collage French Year 5 continue to study French focusing on learning through exposure to authentic songs, stories, poems and games, intended to nurture their second language learning skills.

9 Year 5 Overview continued Games These sessions include: Tag rugby, Hi 5, basketball, football, hockey, cricket rounders and tennis. PE These sessions include: gym, dance, orienteering and athletics. Please support your child by making sure they have the correct kit every week. See the Home link book for details.

12 PSHCE Our PSHCE is arranged in five blocks throughout the year. Our topics include “It’s our World”, Race and Equality, Sex and Relationship Education and Safety in the Home and in the Community. We have visits from the Life Van in March and we visit Safewise in May.
