2  Stop all deliveries and make arrangements for newspapers and packages to be picked up  Have a trusted friend or neighbor watch over your residence and pets  Make sure to secure your vehicle and do not leave any valuables stored inside  Have someone mow your lawn and take out your garbage  Leave your emergency contact information with a friend or neighbor, along with alarm information

3  Before you travel, have your vehicle serviced and inspected for safety  Never drive tired  Check your fluid levels every time you fill up  Make sure you have an up-to-date map  Make sure not to exceed your vehicle’s payload capacity

4  Make sure you buy your ticket under the exact name that appears on your ID  Get to your gateway city as early as you can  Take a carry-on bag containing important items  Wear comfortable clothes
