1 Magnet Lab User Portal https://users.magnet.fsu.edu/ August 2010

2 User Proposal Portal Proposal: Science/Technology Description Demographics CV/Resume Funding Sources ‘Excluded Reviewer’ List Assignment of Magnet Time - Link to Reviews - Link to User Program Head - Link to Site-Specific Training - Request for Feedback Links to all User Program Policies Labwide Proposal Review and Demographics Database Experiment 1: User Program Specific Experiment Description Magnet Time Request Denial of Magnet Time - Link to Reviews - Link to User Program Head - Link to Appeals Process - Information/Advice on Resubmission - Request for Feedback (Process clear ?, Rationale clear ?) Web-based Review - Two External Reviewers - Internal Staff Scientists A single proposal can support multiple experiments. The number of experiments and period of time over which a proposal remains in effect will be determined by each individual user program. External reviewers will only have access to the proposal submission, not the description of a specific experiment. In particular, information such as details about a proprietary experimental technique will not be made available to external reviewers. If external review(s) are late… If users are new users… …the MagLab may award magnet time based on internal reviews alone… …and require the User Committee to provide external review of the proposal at its next meeting. Annual User Committee meeting will assume additional responsibility of ensuring external review of every proposal. If user requests Rapid Access permission from the MagLab director (or designee), then experiments will be considered for provision of magnet time until the next batch proposal call or annual User Committee meeting provides an opportunity for a formal review of the proposal. Decision on Magnet Time - Internal Technical Experts - Specific to User Program - Specific to Experiment
