Life Science MCA Power Point Review **RESEARCH: With your partner, do the necessary research to complete the topic you were assigned & fill in your topic's slide. **PICTURE: Every topic needs at least ONEpicture that explains your topic & any other questions asked for. **PRESENT: Be ready to do a SHORT presentation of your slide at the end of the class --both partners need to present.

7.4.1.1-- Not all cells look alike & multicellular organisms have cells organized into tissues & organs with special jobs. Topic #1: Tissues & Organ Systems What are these organ systems in charge of? ● Respiratory: ● Circulatory: ● Digestive: How do they work together? What makes up an: ● organ: ● organ system:

7.4.1.1-- Not all cells look alike & multicellular organisms have cells organized into tissues & organs with special jobs. Topic #1.5: Tissues & Organ Systems What are these organ systems in charge of? ● Nervous: ● Skin: ● Urinary: How do they work together? What makes up an: ● organ: ● organ system:

7.4.1.2-All living organisms are made of 1+ cells which carry on the many functions needed to live. Topic #2: Cells--What is the difference between... Plant Cells Animal Cells

7.4.1.2-All living organisms are made of 1+ cells which carry on the many functions needed to live. Topic #2.5: Cells How do cells make more cells? What is the purpose of cells?

7.4.2.1.1-ID a variety of populations and communities in an ecosystem and how they are related. Topic #3--Ecosystems ● Explain the difference between populations & communities? ● Show a picture of an ecosystem and label the populations & communities present.

7.4.2.1.2-Compare and contrast the roles of the following: predator vs. prey, parasite vs. host Topic #4--Organism Interactions What is the difference between a … Predator vs. Prey Parasite vs. Host

7.4.2.1.2-Compare and contrast the roles of the following: producer, consumer, decomposer. Topic #5 -- Organism Interactions What is the difference between a… producer- consumer- decomposer- *Show a cycle that illustrates how these are all related to each other in a specific example

7.4.2.1.3--The number of populations that are supported in an ecosystem depend on the biotic resources available and the abiotic factors Topic #6: Populations What are… ● Biotic Resources: ○ examples: ● Abiotic Factors: ○ examples:

7.4.2.2.1-Producers use the energy from the Sun to make sugars from CO2 and H20 by photosynthesis. This food can be used, stored later, or used by other organisms. Topic #7: Photosynthesis Explain what goes on in Photosynthesis.

7.4.2.2.2&3-Describe the roles & relationships among producers, consumers & decomposers in changing energy from 1 form to another in a food web. The total amount of matter in an ecosystem stays the same, it's just transferred from 1 location to another. Topic #8: Food Webs What is a food web? **Find a picture or two that show how food webs show the relationships between organisms in an ecosystem. Label the producers, consumers and decomposers in the diagram.

7.4.3.1.1--Reproduction allows for the continuation of a species. Hereditary information is contained in genes which are inherited through asexual & sexual reproduction. Topic #9: Genetics & Reproduction ● What is Heredity? ●What are genes and where are they found? ●What is the difference between asexual and sexual reproduction at a cellular level?

7.4.3.2-Individual organisms with certain traits in particular environments are more likely than others to survive & have offspring. Topic #10--Survival ● What is extinction? ● How might animals or plants adapt to survive in a specific or changing environment? ● Explain how the finches adapted on the Galapagos islands?

7.4.4.1-Human activity can change the ecosystem Topic #11--Human activity Ecosystem Change What is Selective Breeding? (Give examples of how selective breeding=new varieties of plants and animals) What are ways humans can change a population or ecosystem?

7.4.4.2.1: Explain how viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites may infect the human body and cause problems. Topic #12--Viruses & Bacteria What is the difference between a … Virus Bacteria *Explain the differences in how viruses and bacteria infect the body and cause problems. *Which one (viruses or bacteria) can be effectively treated with antibiotics?

7.4.4.2.3--Recognize that vaccines cause the body to build immunity to a disease without actually causing the disease itself. Topic #13--Vaccines What is a vaccine? How do vaccines work?

7.4.4.2.4-Our immune system protects us against microscopic organisms and foreign substances that enter from outside and against some cancer cells that arise from within the body Topic #14 -Immune System Explain how our immune system works and fights off foreign substances:

Topic #15 - You have your choice of any topic, #1-14, to present.
