3 Purposes of PIEF (As established by national federal industry, government and education roundtable) 1.Provide national leadership in Primary Industries Education-Birth- Year 12. 2.Commission, facilitate and manage PI educational projects. 3.Credible one-stop shop for educators. 4.Communicate latest R and D to teachers and students

4 Origins of the Foundation: 2004-2005-Conversations between state-based groups. 2005-National stock take and meeting. 2007- Federal minister convenes roundtable. Late 2007-constitution written for national body 2007-2008-Represenative working party formed. 2008- Not for Profit Company Established.

5 Origins cont. 2009- PIEF officially announced by Hon. Tony Burke. Founding members; MLA, NFF, Aust Council of Deans, NAAE and CB Alexander foundation. Skills based board appointed by independent process led by Dr. Mary Corbett. 2010- Interim Chief Executive appointed.

6 Interim Chief Executive Background Educator for 15 years, 8 as Principal. (Qld & TAS) Member of ACEL, APPA, TPA, AICD. Involved in 5 curriculum changes. Variety of settings-rural/isolated, extreme disadvantage, inner urban. Motivation-Engaged students, supported teachers

9 What’s happening in schools? Upward pressures Australian Curriculum. Literacy and Numeracy in context. Knowledge of learning – 8 intelligences, emotional connection, PPP approach. Partnerships – Peter Hill,- ‘Black box’, Michael Fullan ‘5 th way of educational reform’. Garden/Sustainability movement – Gardens, tanks, energy. Low impact. Context-highly engaging.
