6 The Aims of KAT  Reduce animal suffering.  Protect the human population. How?  Animal Birth Control (ABC) program: sterilization and rabies vaccinations  Rescue & Treatment program: for sick and injured street dogs and cats  Public Education program: for adults and children

9 Poisoning of Dogs  Strychnine poison was periodically spread around the city killing over 10,000 dogs each year.  This is a horrific way to die.  It is dangerous for the environment as well as for people and their pets.  Piles of decomposed carcasses are dumped into rivers leading to foul life-threatening water pollution.  But the city has agreed to stop poisoning dogs in the areas where KAT works.

15 All dogs receive an identifying ear notch. Mature dogs get a red collar.

16 The Results Since it opened in 2004, the KAT Centre has sterilized and vaccinated over 14,000 street dogs. More than 4,000 of these dogs were injured or sick and were rescued by KAT. The KAT Centre’s Education program is changing how the people of Kathmandu think of street dogs.
