14 Squad Leaders’ Training Course CASE STUDIES

15 Ben, a P5 Boy is in your squad. He has been very irregular in his attendance for BB Parades. Whenever you call him, he will give all kinds of excuses from having tuition to having to look after his younger brother. You found out that some of these excuses are untrue. Discuss how you can motivate Ben to improve on his attendance. Case 1

16 Johnny, a P3 boy is in your squad. He is very active and often refuse to listen your instructions (e.g. during a game or squad time). Sometimes he even argues with you or just refuse to participate in any of the activities if he is not happy. What would you do to help him listen to you ? Case 2

17 Simon, your squad member has lost interest in the activities of BB. He is only staying on because his parents wanted him to do so. what advice would you give to him? what would you say to encourage him ? Case 3

18 John is a Squad Leader. He behaves very well in front of all his officers. However, when he is with his friends, he likes to order them about. The other Boys began to dislike him. If you are his assistant Squad Leader, what would you do to help him ? Case 4

19 It is the end of BB week and time to hand in the cards. Willy is supposed to hand in his BB Week card, but keeps saying that he has forgotten to bring it. What do you think is his problem ? As a Squad Leader, what would you do to help him ? Case 5

20 It is BB Week. Aloysius, a P4 Boy is in your squad. He was one of the lowest collector during last year’s BB week where he collected only 20 cents. He comes from a quite well to do family and you cannot understand why his collection was so low. Since he is now in your squad, discuss with your fellow members how you can motivate him to do better this time. Case 6
