1 Freshman Class Council Elections Information 2015

2 FCC Overview  Composed of one representative from each undergraduate residence hall, for a total of 29 reps  The Council will be divided into 5 committees: Social, Service, Spirituality, Fundraising, and Promotional  The FCC reps will then elect (from among themselves) the Freshman Class Officers: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary  The Class Council and Officers will serve the freshman class (by programming events) through April 30 th of 2016

3 Elections Information  The FCC representatives hold an elected position, elected by the freshmen in each residence hall  All election rules and campaigning are subject to University regulations as outlined in duLac  The elections regulations are explicitly outlined in the Student Union Constitution  Please READ through these regulations- YOU WILL BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE  Regulations available at: http://jcouncil.nd.edu/student- union-constitution/http://jcouncil.nd.edu/student- union-constitution/

4 Elections Timeline  Sunday, September 6 th : Information session, petitions will be available  To be an eligible candidate, petitions need to be signed by at least 10% of the freshman residents in the given dorm  No campaigning can take place during the petition process  Tuesday, September 8th: Petitions due by 9am  Turn in to the Judicial Council Office, 214 LaFortune  Hand your petition directly to Caitlin or Zach! If you slip it under the door, email jcouncil@nd.edu. We are not responsible for your petition if you do so until you receive a confirmation email from one of us.jcouncil@nd.edu  Thursday, September 11 th (evening) : Receive email stating eligibility (or ineligibility) for candidacy  Campaigning begins (after email), pursuant to all regulations  ***All campaign materials must be approved by the Election Committee and receipts collected***

5 Elections Timeline (cont.)  Monday, September 14 th : ELECTION DAY!  Elections will be announced via email  Ballot may also be found at jcouncil.nd.edu  Wednesday, September 16 th : Run-off Elections (if necessary)  If no candidate wins a majority of the valid votes cast, the top two candidates proceed to a run-off election  Thursday, September 17 th : Results published  May occur sooner if there are no run-off elections  If a second run-off election is necessary, it will take place on Friday, September 18 th. Results will be released the following Monday.

6 Campaigning  Campaigning begins after eligibility confirmed on Thursday, September 10 th (not before)  ***All campaign materials MUST be approved by the Elections Committee***  What this means: all campaign materials (posters, fliers, etc.) must be brought to Judicial Council Office during set office hours to have materials stamped; then posted materials must also be stamped by SAO Office (3 rd floor LaFortune)  CAMPAIGN LIMIT: $20.00  This includes your use of print quota  ND print costs: $0.12 per color page, $0.02 per BW page  11x17in posters at FedEx costs: $1.88 per poster  Must provide ALL RECEIPTS to Judicial Council at time of approval

7 Important Elections Regulations NOTE: THESE ARE NOT ALL THE REGULATIONS, ONLY IMPORTANT HIGHLIGHTS. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KNOWING ALL RULES AND REGULATIONS.  Campaigning may be held only over period specified by the Election Committee. Campaigning consists of any public contact for the solicitation of votes.  Places you may NOT campaign:  upper levels of LaFortune (2 nd and 3 rd floors)  in or near any Student Union office or venues occupied by the Student Union (Student Union meetings or SAO funded events)  any classroom whether before, during, or after class period

8 Important Elections Regulations NOTE: THESE ARE NOT ALL THE REGULATIONS, ONLY IMPORTANT HIGHLIGHTS. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR KNOWING ALL RULES AND REGULATIONS.  You may NOT use Listerservs for campaigning- this includes any email that ends in @listserv.nd.edu or any variation of capitalization  Candidates are expected to behave ethically at all times and shall be held responsible for the behavior of their supporters  All allegations of election misconduct are to be submitted to the Vice- President of Elections. All potential violations must be reported within 48 hours of the time committed or by 11:59PM on the day of the election, whichever is sooner  The Judicial Council shall then conduct a review of the allegation as outlined in Article XIII and follow appropriate procedures.  The Election Committee reserves the right to change any sanction based on the magnitude of the offense. The committee will adhere to a policy of keeping all rules uniform to all candidates.
