 Plan content first  Use a consistent background  One idea per slide  Support the main idea with a graphic  You don’t always need a slide  Put detail in student’s handouts

 We teach our students about planning, so why shouldn't we?  We can get better ideas  Better quality  Better organized  This will also show our students that it’s okay to write ideas out before starting the project.

 Consistency is always key to any project  Organization  Cleanliness  Keeps ideas flowing and keeps student’s minds from wandering  Having a consistent background is great for those students who: Have ADD/ADHD Have eye problems Have a behavioral problem

 Students who have eye problems:  May have issues seeing different fonts, colors, and styles  Too many colors/pictures can irritate the student’s eyes  Students who have ADD/ADHD:  Too many colors/pictures can cause their brain to enter “the land of no coming back”  Students with behavioral problems:  Fonts, colors, pictures can make the student angry, excited, or rowdy.

 Keep things simple for yourself  Giving one idea at a time can increase your effectiveness on the idea being taught  Give you an easy way to organize  Give students a chance to soak in the information

 Graphics can be used to enhance a lesson and make ideas and text clearer for some students.  If you have those students who are visual  Example:  This is an owl.

 Remember that you don’t always need a slide to present information.  You can leave your previous slide up and talk about new content.  You don’t always need words on your slides.  Remember just a picture or just a graphic can do wonders for you lesson Saves you time Big impact

 You don’t always have to put every word or detail on the presentation  Sometimes it’s better to add extras on the student handouts  Putting additional information on the student version will allow you to see who is/isn’t paying attention  As a teacher you can throw in some information that the student needs to know for the test

 Most information was based upon my personal experiences in the classroom. The website(hyperlink) below was where I began.  Speaking About Presenting Speaking About Presenting
