2 Welcome to Quarter 4! The following statements are our statements of inquiry for this final quarter of the school year. “People make choices, choices make history.” “Obedience and conformity can move nations of humans to act inhumanely.” Consider the two quotes above. Provide an example from history (could be something we studies already or something you studied before) in which these quotes has been true. DO THIS FOR EACH QUOTE.

3 Thinking about the way people think… Choice- How have our choices impacted who and what we are? Up Standers: someone who takes a stand against injustice Why is that so rare? Why do so many more people choose to be bystanders? Accountability and Responsibility have to do with your choices? Quarter 4 focus: human behavior and the impact of our choices on history

6 Reflect on the following in your journal: What makes up a person’s identity? What is meant by the phrase, “US and THEM?”

7 Today we will be able to: Analyze on what makes up a person’s identity. Reflect on what makes our personal identities. Analyze how identities creates divisions in societies.

8 Travon, William, Javon, Tashauna, and Arianna did a fantastic job sharing their analysis of Jesus Colon and how the decisions people make can impact history!

10 While we watch the video, reflect on these questions in your journal: What distinguishes the Bear from all other bears? What distinguishes the Bear from all other workers at the Factory? Who were the “Us and Them” in the story? http://www.facinghistory.org/hhb/bear-wasnt

11 Create an identity chart for the bear. Circle identities or labels that he did not choose for himself.

13 Reflect on the following in your journal: How does our need to be a part of a group affect our actions? How have parts of your identity affected or influenced the choices you have made? Explain.
