Ethical guidelines limit the scope of our practice to those services for which we have training, so you should not provide counseling services for children without adequate training. You will be unable to conduct play therapy with children (under 13) during internship without completing COU 708 and COU 782 or equivalent. 8 8 08/05/2014 Retention and Remediation  Sometimes a student struggles and may require intentional discussion.  If this is insufficient, she or he may be referred to a remediation committee.  This procedure is explained in Appendix D of the Student Handbook.  Any faculty member may identify a concern and begin this process.

9 9 08/05/2014 Diversity Dispositions and Clinical Logs  In COU 702 and COU 703, practicum and internship, “disposition” and “diversity disposition” are assessed.  NCATE and CAEP require this!  Use the online clinical log to record experiences with diverse populations.  Faculty will help get you started!

10 TASKSTREM Students beginning this semester will not complete a portfolio like the previous students as all assessment information will be gathered in a database system called Taskstream. This comes with a fee and has lifelong (more or less) accessibility. If you entered the program in 2015, you need to purchase Taskstream by 8/21/15 You will be oriented to use of Taskstream in your classes Ongoing students will complete a portfolio, which continues to be revised each semester, but is somewhat described next

11 11 08/05/2014 PORTFOLIO GUIDELINES Introduction and Overview The Counseling Portfolio provides a single source and unified picture of a student’s development throughout their graduate career Demonstrates clinical and professional development, and includes specific documentation of CACREP competencies Contains key artifacts to reflect the student’s growth and development as a professional counselor The structure of the portfolio notebook includes three major divisions after the Portfolio Cover Sheet/Summary Page:

15 15 08/05/2014 We encourage all students to consider a thesis DIFFERENT The processes for completing a thesis and doing a seminar paper are DIFFERENT and NOT INTERCHANGEABLE Consult with your advisor or other professors to see if a thesis is right for you, or to consider research topics What about a Thesis?
