2. Watch the entire film of Spiderman 3 and – using the handouts provided...  Write a feature article on some aspect of the film. This could be about Flint Marko (Sandman), Peter Parker (Spiderman), Mary Jane, Eddie (Venom), Harry Osborn (Green Goblin)  Use the handouts to help you write down any information you may need to write the actual article after watching the film. (the handouts must be submitted with your rough and final draft)  Your final article should be approximately 400 – 600 words in length (typed).  You must have a rough copy that has been edited by a peer in this class. They should check for errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc.  Submit: handout, rough copy, final copy by Friday

3. Audience + Purpose  Audience – New York City  Purpose – To give the people of NYC a reason why all this crazy stuff has happened in their city (according to the film). You are a Daily Bugle reporter, your job is to find a story that people will want to read about.  Assume that what you see in the film is taken from a first hand account of the characters in the story.  Some area’s you may have to make up, but try to use information that the film gives you.

Possible Topics to Write About…  Alien organism wreaking havoc on NYC  Peter Parker’s struggle with power, fame and love, alien organism, as well as his search for his uncle’s killer  Mary Jane’s professional singing career  Harry Osborne's amnesia, becoming the green goblin, struggle with revenge, saving NYC (with the help of Spiderman)  Flint Marko’s escape (reason for escaping), transformation into Sandman (reason for robbing the banks)  Eddie Brock’s struggling photography career (and reason for becoming Venom)  Rise of violence in the city (cause + effect)  Any specific action scene that affects the city (positively or negatively).  Good versus evil (Spiderman vs Venom / Spiderman vs himself)  The importance of friendship and/or loyalty (Peter + Harry)

5. How to structure the feature article  Introduction (hooking the audience, Body (giving evidence/quotes/statistics), Conclusion (restating why the person/topic/issue is so important)  A clear topic  Small paragraphs  Focus on a specific event, person, place  Give more than facts, make the reader care about who or what you are writing about.  Make the feature explore the issue or person, and relate that exploration to how it can affect the reader.  Avoid the past tense (do… not did, is …not was)  Remember your audience and purpose
