6 Reader’s Theater Plays Historical Fables Folk Tales Tall Tales Legends Myths

7 Oral Presentations Students move beyond regular core curriculum to learn skills in: -Organization of content (writing) -Informational reading (research) -Speaking/Language skills

8 Oral Presentation Activities: Organization/Planning Research Presentation Practice Visual Aids (puppets, posters/charts, PowerPoint, etc.) Class Presentations

9 Presentation Topics Personal Presentations Informational (Research) Biography How-To Persuasive Poetry

10 Standards Focus will be on standards in the following areas: -Reading -Writing -Written and Oral English Language Conventions

11 Homework Assignments will be completed in class. Students will only be assigned homework, if they do not complete work in class. If a student is absent, he/she will be required to complete any assignments that were missed (Absent Binder). Since most of the work is done in class, good attendance is important.

12 Grading Students will be graded on: -Class assignments/props/visual aids -Play performances/presentations (Rubric)

14 Gradebook Key Blank Space-grade not yet entered Z-assignment was not completed and turned in on time; counts as a zero 0-received 0% on an assignment X-excused; does not count against grade

15 Discipline Policy Focus on Positive Behavior! Steps (cumulative for the week): 1. Warning 2. Action Plan (must be signed by a parent and returned the following day.) 3. Alternate Classroom/Office (Call home) Severe Behavior: Sent immediately to the office.

16 Novel Reading Mrs. Dossey Students move beyond the regular reading curriculum to learn skills in: -Comprehension -Literary Analysis -Critical thinking Novels: -The Cay -The Hatchet Class discussions, character analysis, making connections, journal writing, quizzes, tests
