3. Attendance Policy Regular attendance is essential for the student to make the most of their education. State compulsory attendance law requires that any student ages 16-19 attend school 90% of the time. Failure to comply with Compulsory Attendance will result in penalties by a court of law against both the student and parent. A complaint will be filed if:  The student is absent ten or more days within a six-month period.  Is absent three or more days (or part days) within a four-week period.

4. A+ Lab The A+ Lab is a credit recovery option for students who were not successful in one or more of their academic classes. After registering for an A+ class with their counselor, the student can make up the needed credit in the A+ lab before school, after school, during lunch or on Saturday. All finals for an A+ course must be taken on campus in the A+ lab

5. Transcript A transcript is a record of academic achievement. It contains all courses taken for high school credit, semester grades, rank, GPA (6 point and 4 point), graduation plan, test scores and demographic information. Transcripts are updated after semester grades (January/June). Students can obtain an official copy of their transcript at the registrar’s office for $1.

8. Credits/Classification If you have… you are a…. 6 credits ~ Sophomore 12 credits ~ Junior 18 credits ~ Senior Students are reclassified at the beginning of the school year in August.

9. STAAR/EOCs State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness (STAAR) or End of Course (EOC) are important tests you must take and pass before senior. You must obtain a Level II score in English I (Reading and Writing), English II (Reading and Writing), Biology, Algebra I, and US History.

10. STAAR/EOC Any student that does not successfully meet the Level II score, will be required to take an additional tutorial class during the lunchtime hour. If you do not meet the Level II scores on all exam by senior year, you will not be allowed to waive (leave early) classes.

11. G/T Scholar Graduation Cords The following is a course list to be completed in order to qualify for a G/T Scholar Cord. 12. Distinguished Graduates Must complete three years of any foreign language. Must complete four academic measures before the end of senior year.  Dual Credit  Scoring a 3 or above on any AP exam.

13. Various Programs National Honor Society To be considered for membership:  students must be juniors or seniors,  must have been in attendance at the inducting campus at least one semester,  and have an overall grade point average of at least 4.5.  Seniors who were not inducted as juniors must have the GPA requirement in the spring semester of their junior year.

14. Texas Scholars Recognition Program- an evening banquet where all Texas Scholars are recognized for their service to the community and will be given special cords to be worn at graduation. GPA of 2.75 on 6.0 Graduate on the Recommended or Distinguished plan Complete 20 hours of community service Service hours are due February of the senior year

15. Midland Legacy Scholarship Student must: Graduate with a 2.75 or higher grade point average on a 4.0 scale. Complete at least forty (40) hours of community service at an approved agency. ( Agency list may be found at www.midland.edu/legacy.)www.midland.edu/legacy Start community service hours AFTER their junior year (this can be started the summer before the senior year). Turn in documentation of hours and application to the Financial Aid Office at Midland College beginning January 1 st your senior year.

16. Tests… which one should I take? If you are planning on continuing your education, there are tests that most secondary institutions require: ACT/ SAT- for a 4-year college TSI - The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a program designed to determine if a student is ready for college-level course work in the general areas of reading, writing and mathematics. This program will also help determine what type of course or intervention will best meet the student's needs and to assist in becoming better prepared for college-level course work.

17. SAT/ACT If you are planning to attend a 4 year university or applying for scholarships, you need to register to take the SAT or ACT or BOTH Fall & Spring. 20. SAT TESTPREP BOOTCAMP Lee High School is hosting a special PSAT/SAT Test Prep Boot Camp in the auditorium Center, on Wednesday, October 9 th from 8:30am to 3:00pm. This is an intensive 6-hour PSAT/SAT workshop designed to give your son or daughter effective test taking and time management strategies, to help boost their performance. September 30th is the final day of registration. The normal cost of this Boot Camp is $250.00. However, Lee High School is so committed to improving test scores that this workshop will be held during the school day for added convenience, and will be available to students for only $45! Materials include 2 books for each participant, including 26 practice tests with detailed answers and explanations, along with a strategy book to further complement your child’s learning.

21. The College Process There are over 3000 colleges and universities in the United States. A student’s goal should be to determine which of these many colleges have the right characteristics and programs for them given their particular needs, skills and interests. SO….WHERE SHOULD YOU BEGIN????

22. Fall of the Junior year - October 16- take PSAT (good practice and possibility of becoming a National Merit Semi- finalist).  Juniors interested can see Mrs. Sanchez (Bookkeeper), to register for the PSAT. Fee of $14. Oct 9 th deadline to register. - Try to keep a journal/list of reflections on your experiences. This could be used later to help spark ideas for your personal statement. (College Resume) Take the SAT/ ACT (if you plan on attending a 4-year college).

23. January- March - Visit as many colleges as you can - Schedule an individual appointment with College Office. -Registration for Spring SAT/ ACT exams. -Begin to think about summer plans. -Search colleges you are interested in on the web.

24. April - Select two teachers to write letters of recommendations for you. - Request written materials from any schools you are interested (continue if adding schools). - Fill out any on-line web inquiry forms for schools you are interested. - Firm up summer plans. - Registration for June SAT exams.

25. May/ June  May - AP Exams. - May- SAT/ ACT exams.  June  - Great time to visit college campuses.  - June 14 – last ACT offered  - June 7- last SAT offered  - Deadlines for registration for ACT/SAT  - Schedule any final meetings before College Office closes for July.

University of Texas changes to admission criteria for graduating class of 2010/2011 beyond Senate Bill 175 modified the top 10% automatic admission program Now, the University is to admit automatically enough students to fill 75% of available spaces set aside for Texas residents entering the freshman class. In other words… the automatic admission will change from admitting the top 10% automatically to admitting the top 8% automatically
