2 Questions to discuss with students after the Assembly 1.What did you learn from the LEGACY OF HOPE Assembly? Consider what Susie said: “We are emotional, mental, physical and spiritual beings. If a friend or family member is using alcohol or drugs, is suicidal, cutting on themselves, sleeping around, or worrying you, how can you help? a. Which adult/s can you turn to? b. 5 Questions to discuss with students after the Assembly 4. Susie talked about setting "Personal Policies" that help us commit to healthy living. As Susie said, “Set a personal policy, then don't bend it on the small stuff. We may pay BIG consequences.“ What "Personal Policies" are you willing to make today? 7 Important Facts From National Association for Children of Alcoholics Alcoholism affects the entire family Increases stress on teens Non-drinking parent can be more upset and creating more arguments, criticism and stress on the children than the alcoholic Children of an alcoholic parent can have more difficulty with: –intellectual-cultural orientation (school work) – active-recreational orientation (getting along with friends) – family cohesion (feeling safe and close at home) – independence (hard to get homework done,etc) © Copyright 2005 Susie Vanderlip

If you are concerned about your choices or feelings, or concerned about a friend, talk to the counselor Give yourself a chance to be free of stress and worry. Talk to the counselor.
