1. Objective: I will analyze cinematic techniques for effect in order to synthesize multiple images and create meaning. You will need the following for today’s lesson.  SSR book  Composition Book  SpringBoard p 133 - 134

2.  SSR  Read a book of your choosing for fifteen minutes.  Reflection questions.  How does sound affect the meaning of a movie?  If you had to pick a soundtrack for your book, what would the theme song be?

3.  Talk with a neighbor about the following questions.  How does an image or series of images provide information about people without words?  How does an audience create stories based on images alone?

4.  For the following activity, we will watch specific scenes from Rear Window and complete the chart on Activity 2.21 handout (you may refer to any previous notes you took in your composition book). 5.  Discuss the following questions with a neighbor.  Who is constructing the story?  Do the other characters agree with that interpretation of events?  What does the viewer know?  How does the viewer sometimes become the “eyes” of the person looking through the lens?  What does the viewer see and what potentially important elements does the viewer not see? You will have 7 – 10 minutes to have this conversation.

6.  Considering all activities and discussion up to this point, complete the analytical paragraph on the back of 2.21 for a daily grade.  Hint: you may want to refer to the film techniques on p. 133 -134 and include them in your response.
