1 Evaluation of Film Poster 1 Audience Feedback and Personal Response 2 Written Response to Evaluation Questions 3 Comparison with real film posters. All evaluations have to been on your blog by next week.

2 Evaluation of Horror Film Poster 1. Annotate your film poster to show how it follows the conventions of the horror genre, and a film poster. My masthead is designed to represent the blood of the knife that character is holding giving, a bit of a hint to the public that there will be death and bloody scenes. As you can see in Lucy when the masthead looks fits with the characters image because she looks mysterious and daring. I have a black background because the image will stand out and help the image and masthead be noticed so that the audience feel as if the image is frightening because they see it first. In Lucy the background is also black and plain except for the writing. In ‘Lucy’ her eyes stand out and show the same colour as the text making her look supernatural because of the exploding colours in her eye. In my poster there is the character holding the skull giving a sign of death and gruesomeness. In ‘Lucy’ there is no age rating meaning that it is ok to watch and has no gory or explicit scenes, however I have one because it is not for young children as there are scenes which are not P.G rated.

3 Question 1: How high is the standard of the production? Does the poster have a high quality to it? Does it accurately look like a film poster? How have you manipulated your images? My poster has a resolution of 900 this is so that it stands out and does not look unprofessional. This will make my poster stand out from the rest because you will be able to see that I excessively worked on this project and did not just rush in to it to finish in time. I have analysed and compared my poster to the poster of a film called ‘Lucy’ and I came to a conclusion that it was a well and done to a superior extent. Question 2: How does the film poster adhere to the codes and conventions of a film poster? Have the group included all key elements such as masthead, tagline, rating, horror imagery, or blurb? My film poster has all the elements and conventions. For example I have a masthead that fits with the bloody knife in the image. My poster also contains the normal social media and parental advisory notes. The blurb is in the middle of the poster so that the public would see it straight away and be interested in what I'm producing. Question 3: How does the film poster adhere to the conventions of the horror genre? Is the imagery linked to horror narrative events, key characters or mise-en-scene? The images that I have chosen and taken show the conventions of horror. The image of the character holding the skull shows that there will be death and it would be gruesome because of the presentation of the skull and he is holding it for everyone to see. The bloody knife shows the normal conventions of horror as you usually see in films in the horror genre

5 1. When doing my horror poster. I made sure I had the conventions of horror stand out visually so that the audience that will see it will be satisfied with what I have shown them. I have used red colours to give the effect of blood. This will not have a huge effect on the audience as it is a common thing to see. I also used the convention of either having a corpse or a skull in a poster. I used a skull. In my peer evaluation sheet it is written that “ it is clear who the protagonist and the antagonist are, the poster has a lot of horror conventions implemented in it to show the best results”. When making the poster I made sure I remembered what to add to the poster to give the best effects. 2. In constructing my poster I used all the basic tools of Photoshop so that I do not come across any complications that I cannot deal with. This is because if I do come across complications I could jeopardise my chance of receiving a good grade. I used tools such as cut and paste, crop, magic wand, magnetic lasoo and paint brush. In one of my peer evaluations it is said that “ it shows good Photoshop skills” my poster has been therefore rated a ‘9’. The same person also writ that “ the bottom of the picture looks unprofessional because you can see the green part where it has been cropped and looks wobbly”. 3. When making my horror poster multiple elements went really well this is why. One element that went well is when making the title. The title went well because it was very easy to make as I had made it at home on a font page where it turned it into a bloody effect. The masthead is not copied of from the internet as I made it and had to pay to have it made. Another element which went well was receiving or getting to put the social media links at the bottom of the poster. They went well because I didn’t have to go and get permission and it was especially easy. Another element which went well is when cropping the image to put it onto the blank background. This was good as the image I was going to use was already perfect in lighting and all I had to do was crop with a lasoo tool. 4. I think my poster does not completely need to be modified however it does contain some things which need changing. For example my image of the antagonist and the main character look unprofessional in the bottom of the image as you can see the green lines slightly form where I used a lasoo tool. In my peer evaluation it say “the bottom of the picture looks unprofessional”. I also could have put the image of the antagonist in the middle of the poster to give it centre stage. One of my peers has writ in my evaluation that “ make the antagonist centre stage” in the negative comments. This is all I think needs changing and adjusting.
