For young adults in the United States (15-19), Causes of death are: Unintentional Injury (#1 type) Homicide Suicide Cancer Heart Disease What risks do teens take with their health? What are some examples of how decisions could lead to poor health or death? What can you control that effects your health, and what is out of your control?

Spiritual Health Environ- mental Health

8 Definitions Physical Health- is the condition of your body.
Example: having a fever, nutrition, or ability to exercise for 30 minutes Mental Health- is the condition of your mind and emotions. Example: your ability to cope with stress in your daily life, or express a range of emotions Social health- is the condition of your relationships. Example: having at least one or two close friends that you feel comfortable with and close to, dating, family relationships, etc. Environmental Health- is the conditions of your surroundings. Example: second hand smoke, lead in house paint, air quality, safety of neighborhood Spiritual Health- is the condition of your spirituality. Example: Spending time each week thinking about the meaning of life, meditating, dedicated to your religion, connecting with nature, etc. Environmental Health

9 Health refers to the overall well-being of your body, your mind, and your relationships with other people. Quality of Life Quality of life is the degree of overall satisfaction that a person gets from life. High quality of life can be a person’s goal A goal is a result that a person aims for and works hard to reach.

10 The Health Continuum One end of the continuum represents poor health (illness). The other end represents perfect, or ideal, health (wellness). Wellness is a state of high-level health Many of the choices you make on a daily basis affect your position on the health continuum.
