1 Civil Rights Movement 1954 - 1968 The following photos will serve as a visual timeline of people and events that helped shape the history of the American society. The quest for social equality and justice was led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in a non- violent revolution. The Supreme Court’s decision to integrate public schools, Emmett Till’s murder, the arrest of Rosa Parks, and the Montgomery Bus Boycott led by Dr. King kicked off a chain of events that would change our society for the better. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965 would eliminate legal segregation and discrimination in our nation. All of America’s people can now have equal opportunities to live in a society that will truly protect their civil rights.
