By Michael L and Sally!

No a person could not survive with out the digestive system, because with out it you would not be able to get the nutrients and water that we need!

The digestive system organs in the include the liver, gallbladder, stomach, small intestine and the large intestine.

The digestive system is a very large system and it takes up space from the mouth all the way down to the pelvis. Different parts of the digestive system are located in different areas of our body.

By making sure they drink plenty of water. Eating healthy foods like Lots of fruit and vegetables to get the nutrients that you need!

The role of the Digestive System is to break down the food that we eat into nutrients for our body and waste. It squeezes food through 9 metres of twisting and turning tubes. It starts as soon as you begin to chew, with muscles squeezing and powerful chemicals, breaking the food down into smaller and smaller pieces. The liver, gallbladder and pancreas make and release many of the chemicals. The nutrients are absorbed into the blood and some is stored for energy. The waste matter is disposed as faeces and urine.

You perform the functions by eating solids and drinking fluids then your food goes through the digestive system track! The Digestive System starts in the mouth which is when food is chewed and mixed with saliva. Then when you have swallowed your food it passes to the esophagus. The esophagus is like a long tube, when you swallow your food that's what your food goes to, to reach your stomach. As the food approaches the stomach, the lower esophagus relaxes, because it is allowing the transfer of food to the stomach. Once food reaches the stomach, it is stored for sometime. The muscle movement of the lower stomach does the function of mixing food particles. From the stomach, it is passed through the small intestine. The time required for transferring food to the intestine depends on which type of food it is. The actual digestion process ends in the small intestine. The useful foods and/or nutrients are absorbed by the intestinal walls and are distributed to the body parts through the circulatory system. The remaining food particles are transferred to the large intestine. Further digestion takes place in the large intestine and the intestinal wall absorbs the useful nutrients.

Intestines: The small intestine is the part of the gastrointestinal tract (gut) following the stomach and followed by the large intestine, and is where the majority of digestion and absorption of food takes place. Liver: The liver is a vital organ. It’s functions include: A filter for toxins, creates protein for the body and creates other chemicals to help digest the food. The liver is necessary for survival; there is currently no way to replace it. Stomach: The stomach is involved in the second phase of digestion, following chewing. It produces enzymes and strong acids to aid in food digestion, and also churns food (makes it a smooth paste) before sending food to the small intestines. Gallbladder: The gallbladder is a small non-vital organ that aids in the digestive process and stores bile produced in the liver.

The Digestive System is very important to the human body because it helps us to digest our food.

There a few things that can go wrong with the Digestive System: 1. Appendicitis: Is when your appendix are inflamed, that is because all the bacteria has gone to your appendix. 2.Gallstones: Gallstones are little stones that form in your gallbladder. This is a little pouch that sits right under your liver.

We eat around 500KG of food each year! In the human mouth our food is either cooled or warmed to a more reasonable temperature! The esophagus is approximately 25cm

The food stays in the small intestine from 1-4 hours. The food stays in the mouth for about 1 minute. In the stomach the food stays there for 2-4 hours Adults can hold 1.5 litres of food in their stomach.
