It’s all about a New Life Romans 6:1-23

Romans five Paul has shown to the readers that through salvation Christians have: Peace with God ,Christian Hope with God, God’s Love and Eternal Life.

Today we are looking at : Living with Christ Romans 6:5-11

In this section Paul continues the concept of being completely identified with Christ.

Paul knew that some Christians failed to fully grasp the New Life
Paul knew that some Christians failed to fully grasp the New Life. How are we living with Christ?

For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection [Rom. 6:5].

Paul makes it clear that by faith we have been joined with Christ
In the likeness of his death. In Christ we have died to sin and that death was seen by baptism. Paul makes it clear that this certifies being united in death we will experience likeness of his resurrection.

In other words, if we are united by being grafted together in the likeness of His death, we shall be also united by growth—grafted, vitally connected—in the likeness of His resurrection. We actually share the life of Christ somewhat as a limb grafted into a tree shares the life of the tree. The life of Christ is our life now. McGee, J. V.

Our kids when we have let them sit in our lap and drive the car they could drive as we directed but we still had the wheel just down below their hands. We as parents were in full control.

It is clear, that the believer cannot deliberately live in sin since he has a new relationship to sin because of his identification with Christ. The believer has died to the old life; he has been raised to enjoy a new life. Dr. Warren Wiersbe

Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin [Rom. 6:6]. For he that is dead is freed from sin [Rom. 6:7].

Paul was trying to get the New Believers to understand that they have become dead to sin when they repented and by faith accepted Christ as Lord.

The union with God now makes the dominion of sin over our body have no more ruling power. It does not make the sin go away, it reduces the affect of sin therefore making it become weak and having no more reign over you and me.

Our old self was enslaved to sin, but in God’s salvation the old self was crucified with Jesus on the cross. Sin has no more claim to you.

We as believers still carry the effects of sin and we will till our bodies are matched up together in the union between the New body and the Glorified Spirit at the Rapture or the resurrection.

Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him [Rom. 6:8]. Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him [Rom. 6:9].

Paul is making the assertion that since we died with Christ, that we are to live with him because of the victory over the grave. Our life living in victory over sin links us together giving evidence that the atonement for sin has been completed which leads to Christ Like living.

For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God [Rom. 6:10]. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord [Rom. 6:11].

Since Christ died and lives to God, it remains for the believer who are united with him in his death and resurrection to live to God too. Paul shows us doctrine, but application must be made by the believer that is to live the way of Christ because of your New Id.

Believers are to consider themselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus. The verb consider is an imperative in the presence tense which means to keep on considering or keep on reckoning that we are dead to sin and we are living to Glorify God.
