3 Involuntary bumping Those passengers bumped against their will are, with a few exceptions, entitled to compensation. If your arrival time is only one hour later then your regular scheduled time then there is no compensation. If you arrive more then 2 hours later then your scheduled time the compensation doubles (200% of your fare, max. $800) Those passengers bumped against their will are, with a few exceptions, entitled to compensation. 4 Voluntary bumping If you are not in a hurry and you are willing to give up your flight then you are given compensation and a later flight. Before you do this ask these questions: When is the next flight on which the airline can confirm your seat? Will the airline provide free meals, a hotel room, phone calls, or ground transportation? ( if not you may have to spend your compensation on those things) The carriers are trained to negotiate with the passengers. 5 Baggage Dont check in last minute, if you miss the airline check in deadline the carrier might not assume liability for your bag if it is delayed or lost. Bags may look like, so always check the name tag of your bag If your bag is open check that all your contents are there, if any are lost report it to the airline and insist on filling out a form. If your suitcase arrives smashed or torn the airline will pay for it. If you and your suitcase do not arrive at the same time do not panic, the airline can track down about 98% of the bags and will have it to you within hours. Once your bag is declared officially lost, you will have to submit a claim.
