2 It has 8.2 million inhabitants (it´s the biggest city of USA). Original name of city was New Amsterodam, because it belonged to the Dutch, but in 1664 Brits captured the city and they renamed it New York. Most of the city is situated on the islands of Manhattan, Staten Island and Long Island The Hudson river flows through the city. The city is divided into 5 districts: Manhattan, Brooklyn, Bronx, Queens and Staten Island

4 Manhattan It has 3 parts – Uptown, Midtown and Downtown Downtown is divided by Central park into 2 parts – Upper East Side, where are the most expensive houses, and Upper West side, where a lot of artists live. There was World Trade Center („Twins“), which was destroyed by terrorist attack on 11 st Septembre in 2001. In Midtown there is NY Times Building, a seat of NY Times Journal. On Manhattan there is also the seat of OSN or Wall Street, where is the seat of NY Stock Exchange.

7 Brooklyn A part of Brooklyn is Coney Island, where there are beaches like Brighton on Manhattan Beach. There is Brooklyn Bridge, which connects Brooklyn and Manhattan.

9 Bronx There are a stadium of NY Yankees or the ZOO (The biggest ZOO in USA) Queens US Open is held here every year. Staten Island There are a lot of parks.

10 Tourism Empire State Building It was completed in 1931 in art deco style. It has 102 floors and since 2001 it´s been the highest building in NY. Central park It covers 3.41 km ². People come here to relax, run or go for a picnic. Times squere It´s the centre of NY. Broadway It´s a street, where there are a lot of theatres. (On Manhattan)

13 5 th Avenue One of he most famous streets and the most expensive street in NY. There are a lot of shops like Gucci, Tiffany, Marc Jacobs... There is also Guggenheim museum. It´s a very interesting building. There are paintings of famous painters like Kansinsky, Marc Chagall, Vincent van Gogh or Manet. Statue of Liberty The statue is 46 m high and weighs 205 tons. In left hand it holds plates, which represent the declaration of independence. On the plates there is the date of the decl.of independ.: 4 th July 1776. Its crown with 7 flashes (like 7 continents) is the symbol of freedom. It has been in NY since 1886 and it´s a UNESCO monument.

16 Food For NY typical restaurants are street stalls. You can buy a pizza, hot dog, pretzel and so on. Gastronomy is very influenced by immigrants. So you can find lots of Chinese, Italien or Mexican restaurants. Of course there are fast foods – McDonalds, Burger King and so on. In NY the most used is public transport. NY City Subway is the largest metro system in the world. It has 468 stations, and most lines are open 24 hours. In Queens there are two airports: LaGuardia and JFK Airport. Transport

20 My opinion I love the city. It´s full of life, possibilities and fun. I would like to live here for a few years. I would go to run to Central park, for coffee I would go to Starbucks, I would to visit all monuments and I would go to shopping. But perharps I wouldn´t stay forever, because I don´t think it´s the best place for children.

21 WASHINGTON

22 It has 632,323 inhabitants. It´s the capital city of USA. It was named after the 1 st president of USA George Washington. In 1790 George Washington chose this place to build the future capital city. The government moved here in 1800. D.C means District of Columbia. It´s a separate region, but it hasn´t representatives in Senate. There is the seat of the president, Congress and Senate. Also it´s the seat of FBI, CIA, World Bank, Department of Defence.

23 Monuments The White house It´s the seat of the president of USA. The architect was James Hoban. It´s a building in classicism style. The most famous room is The Oval room from 1902. Originally The White house wasn´t white, but after war it was damaged, so it was repainted (in 1812) It has 131 rooms, 3 kitchens, 35 bathrooms, tennis court, cinema, swimming pool and underground shelter.

25 The United States Capitol It´s in neoclassical style and one of the architects was Thomas Walter. It´s the seat of government. The National Mall Is an open-area national park. It connects Capitol and Washington monument. The Washington Monument It was built in 1884 to honour president George Washington, 1 st president of USA.

28 The Lincoln Memorial It was built in 1922 to honour president Abraham Lincoln. Abraham Lincoln was 16 th president of USA. He was shot in Ford´s theatre in 1865. The building was inspired by Partheon in Athens, inside is a statue of Abraham Lincoln, which is 6 m high. Library of Congress It´s the biggest library in the world. It contains 30 million books in 470 languages. If you need a book, you can´t borrow it home. There is one of the best universities of USA: Georgetown University. It was established in 1789.
