2 SFH Background SFH Rwanda, a Rwandan local NGO, member of the PSI Global Network Fully registered in January 2012, launched in April 2012 & acquired Legal Personality in February 2014. Specialized in Social Marketing and Behavior Change Communications (BCC).

5 Program Focus The program focus on Key populations (KEPs) which include: – Female Sex Workers (FSW), – Men who have sex with men (MSM), – Mobile populations (truckers) SFH Rwanda in working with Key Populations aims to measurably improve their health life through social marketing of health products and health services provided such as training, educational events on HIV, regular meetings with them and follow ups through peer educators.

6 Services or Package offered Behavior change communication or Demand creation. Behaviors to Promote by group: FSW: Primary behaviors to promote include correct and consistent condom use with all partners (paying and nonpaying), use of family planning methods, frequently receiving VCT services message. MSM: Focused behaviors include: using a male condom with every partner, receiving regular VCT references and Sexual Infections Transmitted (STIs) messages, limiting multiple concurrent sexual partners.

Channels: Creation of strong and profitable community Based Distribution(CBDs) Among Key population. Distribution of condoms trough trained peer educator channel and lubricant especially for MSMs. Provision of seed stocks for Key population association

9 Key Achievement 2013 -IPC sessions play a significant role in assisting the FSWs, MSMs, Moto drivers, truckers and PLWHIV in making their plans for behavior change and appraise their own behaviors Production and distribution of peer educator tool kit for IPCs session. 11,576 versus 11,000 planned female sex work were reached with interpersonal communication messages. 813 MSMs were also reached with IPCs 137 truckers drivers versa 100 planned were reached with HIV messages. 120 Youth from Key Population were trained(six month period) with life skills training e.g in Huye we trained them on shoe making. 5 CBD of Female sex workers received seed stock 25 490 condoms. Sale of 10,435,318 Condoms country wide. 10 Key Achievement up June 2014 Community Events for Target groups -These community events are ground breaking approaches used by SFH/Rwanda to mobilize the target community for key health messages in health interventions 2052 key populations (i.e. FSW, MSMs, Truckers, out of school youth) reached through IPCs 1997 KEPs and 2382 people reached through community events(MVU, Special events and Rapid Promotions) -Current 12 associations of FSWs and 12 of Moto driver are distributing Health Products -Distribution/sales, social marketed condoms 9 500 000

12 Challenges and recommendations Challenges: Stigma and discrimination within Rwandan community especially in case of MSM and FSWs, Low knowledge on Health program, Limited partner supporting MSMs. Recommendation at central level, Structured coordination meeting e.g quarterly meeting, Continuous advocacy in Donor community. On the field: Linkages between partners and collaboration with local authority. Continues updates on the innovative and activities and sharing success stories.
